People Are Saying Bud Light’s New Tagline Promotes Rape Culture

The #UpForWhatever campaign touts the beverage as “the perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night.” Update: The company said they “regret” the slogan in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

After complaints, Bud Light has apologized for a slogan that appeared on some bottles in line with their #UpForWhatever campaign: “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night.”

The image was first posted on Reddit Monday night by user GhosX9 and then picked up by the Consumerist. By Tuesday afternoon, it started to make waves on social media for the company’s apparent tone-deafness when it comes to the role alcohol plays in rape culture.

I drink real beer. Craft beer. Microbrews.

Might I recommend New Belgium? I've been to a couple Democratic fundraisers at their Fort Collins brewery!

DENVER – Bud Light is backpedaling after upsetting people with a label saying the beer was perfect for temporarily removing the word "no" from the drinker's vocabulary, evoking concerns about alcohol-fueled rape culture.

Anheuser-Busch swiftly apologized Tuesday afternoon as images of the label spread online. The full label reads: "The perfect beer for removing 'no' from your vocabulary for the night."

The brewer said it intended the label to be a fun way of invoking the ongoing "Up for Whatever" advertising campaign in which young drinkers say yes to trying new things. Not everyone took it that way. Online, many comments said the wording uncomfortably evoked an alcohol-fueled college rape culture.

They are backpedaling alright. What as****e thought that one up? Who are the ones that approved that message, sick F****!

Thanks Justin.

The "fired" guy will probably get backdoor comps for stirring up controversy, and MRA "defense" sales (re: anti-gay pizza gofundme ring a bell?), and appealing to the knuckle dragging core demographic. There will be some wink wink nudge nudge about "political correctness" and a hearty recommendation for his next job.

got a raise. It says just what they want to attract their target audience. I wouldn't drink Budweiser if you paid me. It's swill and it's marketed for the phoney tough guys. I always have to laugh at the big manly guys that drive the huge pick-ups with the huge tires and gun racks. They come into the pub and order a Bud Extra Lite with a water back. I love craft brews. In the great state of Washington, they opened 83 new craft beer breweries last year. More than any other state. And not all craft beer is expensive, esp at local brew-pubs. There are also some very good inexpensive beers. No excuse for a liberal to drink Bud super lite.

Who drinks that swill anyway?

I'd bet it is a late 20's, early 30's age male marketing employee. I'm sure he'll go far.
