If I read it correctly, it's saying that Obama had no real challengers in 2008. But he did. He didn't actually have enough delegates to secure the nomination until June 2008.
And rarely does a sitting President face a challenge for the nomination for re-election within his own party.

Sanders will end up a strong challenger. Or O'Malley. Or even Elizabeth Warren.
Aside from the fact that I am not at all happy with the idea of Hillary Clinton as the candidate, I am even unhappier with the idea that she might skate to the nomination with no opposition.
