July trial coming up

Bill Baroni, a former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Bridget Anne Kelly, a former deputy chief of staff for Mr. Christie, a Republican, have long said they were innocent of any wrongdoing in the scandal, which arose from a traffic jam in 2013.

On Friday, the United States attorney for New Jersey, Paul J. Fishman, announced the indictments of Mr. Baroni and Ms. Kelly, who the prosecutor said had “callously victimized” the citizens of Fort Lee, N.J. — on the west side of the bridge — by purposely scheduling the closing of access lanes on the first day of the school year, causing a huge traffic jam.

On Friday, Bridget Anne Kelly, who has proclaimed her innocence, suggested that sarcastic comments she made amid the George Washington Bridge lane closings had been taken too seriously.

David Wildstein, another former Port Authority official and a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s, pleaded guilty on Friday in United States District Court in Newark to conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy against civil rights.

But Ms. Kelly and a lawyer for Mr. Baroni have called Mr. Wildstein, their onetime friend, a liar who was willing to concoct any story that would keep him out of prison.

I got up early hoping to be able to see these 2 in the courtroom. I am hoping the courts kind of rush this trial to completion BEFORE the 2016 election gets serious.
