Beards as dirty as toilets with same bacteria found in faeces

Some men's beards are as dirty as toilets, with the same bacteria normally found in faecal matter, scientists have found.

In a small TV experiment by New Mexico's Action 7 News, a microbiologist was called in to test the beards of a handful of men for germs.

Findings provided some "disturbing results" revealed John Golobic, who carried out the tests. He said: "I'm usually not surprised and I was surprised by this."

While several of the beards contained normal bacteria, some were filthier than toilets, containing "the types of things you'd find in (faecal matter)". It is worth noting that finding the same bacteria as is present in faeces is not the same as faeces itself.

The guys apparently don't know about washing it, trimming it properly and conditioning it.

I think they are making some kind of a statement with a big, untrimmed, dirty beard. I think it says "Nobody with good sense will stand within 5 feet of me because I'm PROUD of being a germwagon."

So I vow to NEVER wash my beard in the toilet again. I had NO idea the water was so dirty.

11. Hair is notorious for absorbing bacteria and odors

whether on the scalp, face, underarms, or...elsewhere. Coupled with the aerosol spray of fecal matter that accompanies every No. 2 flush, it's hardly surprising to find fecal bacteria in beards. P.S. - it gets in the hair on top of our heads as well, and if you sit while flushing, well...
