As a former broadcaster (16 years), I am depressed that this industry fell prey to uber-corporate companies--therby destroying small-medium market radio/TV stations. There needs to be a change.
In a functioning democracy, the media is the people's voice, and the entity responsible for holding power accountable. Without a free media fairly scrutinizing the decisions of political and economic power brokers and bringing important events to light, elected officials and corporate CEOs would be corrupt and unaccountable to the people.

(18,888 posts)Good $ for a student. Our station was bought and changed to CW. The market was already saturated w/ CW. Two or three years later it became RW Talk Radio.
Many really amazing small stations died during the Reagan '80's.
