What's to stop the officers from saying they buckled him in and he must have unbuckled himself during the ride? I'm worried that they may testilie.

2. Depending on where the seatbelt latch is, it could be trivial to push. I bet it happens all the time

Unrelated incident where a prisoner (handcuffed behind his back) easily unbuckled himself, escaped, fled and was hit and killed by traffic.
