Political Maneuvering is the opposite of Political Courage.

Political courage involves letting people know where you stand on issues, not vague pablum, and not just on issues that are supported by voters. Political courage means being eschewing the obfuscating, meaningless language of political maneuvering. Political courage entails engaging broadly with the press and with voters and not the carefully staged events of political maneuvering. You'll never see certain politicians engaging with people who don't agree with them. And because of that, you'll never get a real portrait of who that person is.

Political courage takes one person. Political maneuvering takes teams and pollsters and money to pretty it up.

Me? I'll take political courage over political maneuvering.

How about you?

Those are just stereotypes. They always pin that "courage" tag on a candidate to make them look like an unrealistic idealist.

Bernie has political maneuvering. He's an independent entering in to the Democratic primary to advance certain political interests.

That is the ultimate political maneuvering. And because of the money difference, it's going to be a very asymmetric battle.

He does have a strong idealist streak too. But I think it's important to see that Bernie is the ultimate pragmatist, not a purist or some kind of utopian idealist.

He's already compromised so much just by entering the Democratic party primary. But it's because he understands that is the maneuver that gives him the most impact and the best shot at winning.
