Are the ammosexuals pushing for guns here in General Discussion lately purposely trying to push voters away from the Democratic Party when they headline their views on the value of the lives of our children like this?

Really, you don't make friends by minimizing the value of the lives of our loved ones.
You just don't.

(114,904 posts)what gun legislation that has been introduced would have reduced the number of guns in this country? Please bear in mind SCOTUS decisions that declare the right to bear arms as an individual right.
What constitutional federal gun control legislation would have made James Holmes purchase of guns used in the theater shooting, illegal?
Effective gun control is impossible without changing the constitution and that's impossible. Yes, I'm for extending background checks and registration, but those aren't politically likely either.
Recognizing that federal gun control is a political impossibility as well as a losing issue for dems in many states and in all national elections does not mean as you so mendaciously claim, that one doesn't care about children (or others) being shot and killed.
Your post is nonsense. Telling people that they don't value the lives of "our loved ones" is not only manipulative, it's absurd.
The goal is not to reduce the number of guns--it's to reduce the number of people with access to them. And yes, background checks and mental health screens are entirely constitutional.
Bans on high-capacity magazines like the hundred round drum he had attached to his weapon.
Sorry, I'm not going to let someone who seriously thinks Sanders has a shot in the general election tell me meaningful gun control legislation is impossible.

(114,904 posts)or who just don't feel, for various reasons, that it's a viable issue. The fact is that gun control that would actually reduce the number of guns and gun violence, is unconstitutional. And if you are unaware of SCOTUS decisions that affirm that the first amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms, you don't know enough to discuss the issue.

(30,481 posts)That op would have been thoroughly trashed two months ago. We all know it would have been. Doesn't take much knowledge of du to understand that.

(6,498 posts)I've disagreed with the US Supremes on their interpretation of the First Amendment before. (See Schenck v. United States on "falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater".)
As well as on other issues. See Bowers v Hardwick, for example, after which 481 of us sat down on the steps on the US Supreme Court and were arrested while demanding that the decision be overturned.

A toddler was killed in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon when a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot him with a gun that had been left unattended in a home, police said.
At least one person was home at the time of the shooting, but Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said investigators hadn't determined who owned the gun.
The toddler, who was 1 years old, was pronounced dead at the hospital after he was shot in the face, WEWS-TV reported.
The boy's mother could be hear screaming from the home's back porch after learning he had died, Cleveland.com reported.

MOM DARCHEL MOHLER WRITES ABOUT HOW ANOTHER ADULTS NEGLIGENCE CAUSED HER DAUGHTERS DEATH
June 4, 2013, my life was obliterated. My special, beautiful, talented, and amazing daughter, Brooklynn Mae Mohler, was shot and killed due to an irresponsible gun owner. She was only 13 years old.
Our current laws did not and will not protect her life; nor do the current laws give her life any value. As it stands, there will be no further accountability on the irresponsible gun owner.
My daughter was shot in the back and killed by her friend who was playing with her fathers gun on June 4th of 2013. From what we have been able to gather, we believe that our daughter did not even know her friend had the gun in her possession, and this was a horrible accident.http://momsdemandaction.org/faces-of-courage/tragic-refrain-adult-leaves-loaded-gun-unattended-child-dies/

Something can be done about this on a state level. If you want effective gun control, the best way to do that is to craft STATE law- and craft it carefully.
As for the cult of personality nonsense, gun control isn't and has never been one of my top issues- in part because it's just about impossible on the federal level to pass meaningful gun control legislation.
