witness said cop killed man for no obvious reason.
The San Diego Police Department decided to change a section of its body camera policy after an officer failed to turn on his camera before fatally shooting a man in the Midway District.
Instead of hitting record when they make contact with someone, they will have to turn on their cameras before they arrive at a scene.
The move comes after Officer Neal Browder shot Fridoon Zalbeg Rawshannehad, 42, to death on April 30 outside the Highlight Bookstore in the Midway District.
Snip....Witness:
I support police, but this was wrong. This guy shouldnt have been shot based on what I saw on the video, said the man, who did not want to be identified. The guy was walking, just normal, lazical (sic), lazy walking. If he (the officer) said stop, thats all he said. He just opened the door, and said stop and shot.

OP
Someone had the idea of designing the holster so the camera came on when the gun was drawn.

(268,949 posts)1. That should be a 'firing' offense
He should lose his job.
Should be mandatory termination for any who turn off camera.
This is madness - the US can't really speak to anyone about human rights these days

An obstruction of justice charge, and tampering with evidence.

But I like the above idea better, of turning on the camera when the cop responds to a call.
Plus NOT arresting witnesses with cameras.

(99,594 posts)12. In Omaha officers have been told in writing and it has been in the press
Officers MUST NOT stop or interfere with a citizens CONSTITUTIONAL right to record audio OR video of police in their duties. A couple including a Sgt. were fired for interfering with that right.

(1,554 posts)9. I bet there is the technology to turn it on once they leave the car
And it only turns off thru a third party "OnStar" like operator or dispatcher. That could solve a lot of problems.

(26,219 posts)10. How is that even optional
One would think that the whole point would be that they are triggered somehow, if not 24/7.

it seems the cops are murdering someone and lying about what caused it on a routine basis.
