Rumors floating around that Obama will announce support for Gay marriage---Today.

Well according to Atrios at least....

Comfort
12,000 years ago, in the early days of this blog, I think a lot more liberal people were opposed to marriage equality. Many cloaked it in politics, as in them gays are going to lose elections for "us" if they keep pushing this stuff, but many just echoed what I hope are, to most of us, increasingly gross and creepy arguments. Such as "I believe in equality but I'm just not comfortable with using the term 'marriage' for man on man unions" or similar.

Deny basic rights to people because it makes you feel a bit icky. Dumbasses. It's not fucking about you.

... some Very Serious Connected People on the twitter seem to think that Obama's evolution might be completed today.

because I didn't see anything on his official agenda. Interview, huh? That would be a good venue, but I'd really be surprised. He's been so politically reflexive on the question up to this point.

that Obama might actually start taking stands that aren't so popular politically, which means maybe he would be bolder in his second term and be a strong president.

by getting the amendment on the ballot the same day they had all their hateful crazies coming out to vote in the Republican primary.

Charlotte voted OVERWHELMINGLY against the bigot amendment.

But the real issue is how exactly Republicans gamed the system, when there were a minority of voters.

It's not just the right thing to do, I also believe it would benefit him politically. The vast majority of people who are against gay marriage are not going to vote for him anyway.

And force Romney to take a right-wing position in order to placate his base, effectively moving Romeny once again away from the center, a place he's been trying to re-claim since he got the nom.

Most moderate Republicans are very supportive of marriage equality and will now have another excuse not to feel excited about Romney.
