I DIDN'T VOTE FOR THE ASSHOLE, and neither did other Democrats and some independents and maybe some Republicans(?).If you disagree with me, I have no words. Fuck that concept of ALL of us suffering. The Scott voters can all go move to some freaking island called Floridasomalia.

(11,619 posts)deserve what they got. Those who voted and tried to make a difference, and those people who tried to vote but were denied the chance because their government passed laws that kepth them from voting (voter ID laws) sadly, must suffer with them.
That is my philosophy on voting. I may think voters who vote for Rat Bastards everywhere made bad choices, but they made a choice.

(13,616 posts)So those of us who voted, despite being harassed and screaming to everywhere (including du) are just "Collateral damage."
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)In your state, Democrats lost that vote.
This is not the fault of those who tried to make things better. Unless you are able to get up and leave, that is the nature of elections.
I would not call it collateral damager. In California, we have had Republican administrations. I tolerate them and try to get people out in the next election.

(92,061 posts)The only state, Wisconsin voted for Walker 3 times, and Democrats can say don't blame me l, but the fact is he one three times
As you pointed out in our state, California we have voted in republicans. Reagan was one of them. No, I didn't vote for Reagan and he made a mess out of our state, but the majority of the populace did, and because of that the whole story ate has to accept that, even those who didn't vote for him

I said the fault lies with people who voted for Republicans or those who could not be bothered to vote.
Democrats lost an election. That happens. If a citizen went to the polls and voted, or was kept from voting due to laws created to stop citizens from voting, at least the citizen tried to make a difference.

Problem with Florida is that our Democratic slate is very thin and we have an ex repuke as the chief fund raiser in Allison Tant.
example: Charlie Christ, republican, independent, democrat or just likes living off tax payer dollars?
Alex Sink; Jeez how many times do you have to put her up until you figure out that she is about as progressive democrat as a fence post?
Bill Nelson: He likes the TPP and the TPA. Thinks it will make us all great middle class citizens. WTF???
Gerrymandered districts and puke packed state regulatory offices.
Pain is what I feel about this once beautiful state.

Are there any decent, honest politicians in Florida?
Or is it just hopeless, and Florida can look forward to being the dog's chew toy until the southern half of the state becomes the new pathway for the gulf stream?

(37,457 posts)Miami-Dade county, which is LOADED with Democrats, was disappointing in turnout, as was Osceola county. I forget which other counties were disappointing. Democratic voting blocs = the rest of the seniors, socially liberal, non-wealthy, some of the whites, the non-white males, higher educated, urban/big city
Florida has too many in the Republican categories. Before anyone jumps on me, yes, of course, not all seniors/rural/wealthy/etc vote the way I indicated. Of course.
We're a PURPLE state, and we're trending blue very slowly. Of course the "mess" is made by Florida voters. We need all the help the DNC and everyone else can give us. The Republicans are very strong in this state.

(24,328 posts)I grew up in California in the 60's and 70's.
California was a great state then Prop 13 got passed
A lot of counties were short on funds and turned to the state for help... most of those were counties that voted for Prop 13, like the libertarian asshats in Modoc County
Gov Brown provided the state aid
Most analysis I've seen has shown that had Brown let them sink for a bit Prop 13 would have been voted out
But because the state allocated important budget dollars for these areas the majority that voted for Prop 13 didn't really feel the pinch
My attitude has become, sometimes you get what you voted for and if you vote for being cheap, you should feel the effects so everyone gets the message

(4,106 posts)Until I saw the low voter turnout. What gets me is that the majority of republicans either didn't know he was a Medicare crook of epic proportions or didn't care because they always vote "R". How do you bust a cult? I don't know. Now the hospitals are losing their federal funding because he wouldn't expand medicare. We are a purple state in POTUS election but locally we are red. They are working on destroying the pension fund now for police/fire. So many here are clueless but because it doesn't effect them yet they just don't give a damn.

(29,414 posts)I do want to point out, though, that DU will give your state a pass for the most part. Don't expect to see many DUers inventing insulting versions of your state's name that get used again and again. Don't expect to see as many uninformed broadbrush attacks on your region. You're in the north. It's a given in the minds of most here that your brand of republicanism isn't nearly as bad as it is for those of us in the southern and central states. We're still the favorites to be whipped.
I also find it odd that I'm one of the few calling for a stronger union to these United States more often than I see from those angry types that just want to cause a global crisis by forcing us out of the union. Sure. Let's break up the country and crash the whole system in a way none of us can truly imagine
Woops! My bad. Thought you were talking about Scott Walker (The other Evil Scott)
steve2470
(37,457 posts)Before I came to DU (and I come from a highly political family), I NEVER heard anyone talking badly about Texas. No one. At all.
Anyone who insults Texas based on ignorance isn't worth my time, frankly. The same goes for my state, Florida. I don't bash any other state when it doesn't live up to my expectations. There's great and not so great humans in EVERY state.
DU, for the most part, is just so much hot air and "entertainment". Sometimes it transcends that to be a great resource.

(42,278 posts)From a fellow FL Democrat. I live in a red county and I have yet to find anyone who will admit to voting for Scott. I cannot explain it. But, neither can Massachusetts and Maryland, which elected R governors this cycle.
Guess I can explain it: when Democrats don't vote, we lose. Simple. Then we're stuck with idiots like Scott.
As for me, I voted straight D. Me and my family don't deserve this loser of a gov.
steve2470
(37,457 posts)We on DU are part of the 1% (?) who really pays attention to national and state politics, and actually gives a damn. Enough of a damn to vote SOMEHOW SOME WAY. We are NOT apathetic, at least not as much as most people.
Most voters (who are even registered) aren't that concerned about elections. They are worried about money, their jobs, their families, their health, etc etc etc.. Way down the list comes that horrible word, politics. They aren't paying attention to things on a regular basis.
The result ? The motivated wins elections, and sadly to say, the Republican base is pretty damn motivated. That's just a fact. They vote during off-year elections, and of course during presidential election years too.
If Democrats had wonderful turnout for every state and national election, there would no issues about this. More states would have Democratic governors, Democratic legislatures, and a Democrat would win the national election every time, from what I know of national stats. That's not the case.

I can't stand him spending so much state money when he and his teabagger legislature decided to sue the US because it's following the law!! How dare they not give him the 2 billion he wants? They are really hurting the health of millions of working poor in this state by refusing to expand Medicaid and not finding a way to cover the poor without it. I think FL has the most people without insurance of any state, but not positive. I am positive, however, that we do have very high numbers of uninsured folks and that the safety net hospitals may not be able to survive without the federal assistance they've gotten used to for decades and without the Medicaid expansion.
