A baby red kangaroo and four baby goats were stolen from a Wisconsin Zoo, officials confirmed Sunday.
Workers at Special Memories Zoo in Greenville, Wisconsin, discovered the animals were missing Wednesday morning, according to owner Dona Wheeler. She said the joey was taken directly from the mother's pouch, injuring the mother in the process.
"There's just bad people in the world," Wheeler told NBC News. "It's very, very upsetting."

I also question why such zoos exist if they can't keep the animals safe.

(36,281 posts)I killed the link because I HATE video that autoruns when the page comes up so I don't know if it gave info about the age of the joey. Red kangaroos can effectively stack three offspring in development simultaneously, an embryo in utero that is in diapause (suspended development), a slightly older one in the pouch that is perma-suckling and is tiny and underdeveloped, attached to a nipple, and an older joey on foot that returns to the pouch regularly to nurse but is much more independent than the one (sometimes two) on the nipple.
If they took the underdeveloped one, it died within hours, most likely from hypothermia if nothing else. If they took an older, more independent joey it can live for long periods outside the pouch, as long as it's fed.
