Prince Performs New Song “Baltimore” At “Rally 4 Peace;” Tells Crowd The “System Is Broken” (VIDEO)
Posting in GD because this is sure to provoke political discussion.
Prince performed his new song Baltimore on Sunday during his Rally 4 Peace concert in Baltimore, following weeks of massive riots and protests over the death of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody. Princes performance at the Royal Farms Arena was his first full-length concert in Baltimore in 14 years. In between playing such greatest hits as Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, and Lets Go Crazy, Prince also offered the crowd words of encouragement. See video from his performance below.
Prince told concertgoers during the two-hour show that everything was going to be all right, and we are going to figure this thing out this time. He further said to the crowd, The system is broken. Its going to take the younger people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life
The next time I come to Baltimore I want to stay in a hotel owned by you.
As Gossip Cop reported, Prince announced the concert last week, saying that he wanted it to honor the death of Gray, and asked everyone attending to wear grey clothing. On Saturday, prior to performing at the benefit concert, Prince released Baltimore. In the uptempo track, he calls for an end to police brutality, with lyrics including, Does anybody hear us pray, for Michael Brown or Freddie Gray? Peace is more than the absence of war.
