A question on deflated footballs.

I don't understand this stuff. Doesn't everyone play with the same ball? So if there is an advantage to playing with a deflated ball wouldn't that advantage be the same for everyone not just one team?

Their offense uses the team provided balls.

When the other team goes on offense, they switch to using that team's balls.

The teams then control their game balls as described above.

In the Patriots/Colts game (and, apparently, others), the Pats "ball manager" dashed off to the restroom to deflate the balls in the very short time he had before receiving the balls and getting the balls to the field. The Colts made no such adjustment, so the Pats had underinflated balls while the Colts were playing with legal footballs.

And, the "ball manager" was doing this at Tom Brady's bidding.

First, the Colts balls were also underinflated, just not as much as those of Patriots.

Second, there is NO proof it was done at Tom Brady's bidding. It may be the case, but there is no proof of that.

The Patriots balls were underinflated due to the Patriots being cheating SOBs.

totally clueless on your interest or take on a sporting event. and cheating.

yet, i find the people that clearly can recognize, oh..... racism, sexism, homophobia, social injustices, .... also, really have an issue with cheating. you know. simply call it what it is.

and those that meh... to the social injustices seeing cheating as just part of the game.

I don't understand why anyone plays it.

I would think that checking the footballs to be sure they are regulation would be a standard practice.

The footballs are checked by game officials before the start of the game. Each team has a representative given a bag of balls for his team to use during the game. That was the apparent problem here. The Patriots representative most likely secretly deflated the balls in his bag after the officials had checked them.

Including the QB just suspended, Tom Brady. Letting the offense select the ball to use is less than 10 years old. Your intuition about how it should work is surely correct!

Minutes before the start of the game, the officials check out each ball to be used and make sure the pressure is within regulation range. Each ball is then marked after it has been tested and passed.
