(11,804 posts)But there are forums for prayer circles and the like - why don't you post this there instead of in GD where, as experience has shown, it's likely to create an enormous ruckus?

It's devastating.

(11,804 posts)or something like that. A certain number of DUers may find the exhortation to pray offensive, and out of deference to them, maybe you'd be better served by saying "Think of Nepal" or "Remember Nepal" so as not to instigate an issue.
I personally will keep Nepal and the situation there in my prayers, but general discussion is for everybody.

(24,367 posts)Well, they aren't stupid, that's for sure. Get into the middle of the street to avoid a possible collapsing building.
I'm curious where the two dogs were headed off to shortly after it started!
I lived in Palmdale, CA from late '01 through '04, about 3 miles from the San Andreas fault line. It is clearly distiguishable along CA Rte 14 entering Palmdale, as a cut through a hill shows the offset of the strata, not to mention the fault forms the entire southern edge of the Antelope Valley itself.
In those 3 years there wasn't so much as a nudge. Nothing. And I could not have been happier!
I'll handle hurricanes. The earth shaking with no warning scares the hell out of me.
Not a praying person, but my heart and a few dollars goes to the residents.

(24,367 posts)I know it is a serious concern, and not a laughing matter, but I can't help but giggle a bit at the two pups! At the 2:01 mark, watch up the street at the right. They come out of a building, scoot up the alley for a sec, then haul ass down the sidewalk!
"LET'S GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE, BILL!"
Again though, utterly fascinating. Reminds me of this video from Japan. What enormous power. What incredible activity is going on to make what we all assume to be a solid surface, react like this;
Not to overuse the word, but just simply fascinating.

(115,677 posts)where to do something you consider meaningful? I've posted donation links and seen to have missed your posts for doing something meaningful to you. Thanks for the links, in advance of your reply giving them.

Here are her words
Give a little or a lot . What you can will help.
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal near the capital of Katmandu. I may be a ten year old, but I would like to ask all of youfriends and familyto help care for the injured people in Nepal. You don't need to, but you would do two things by making a donation: you would help thousands of people and you would have a sense of community with the rest of the world.
We should remember the comforts we have and share what we can with other people. The people who are injured need us and I believe that they would surely help us if we were in that position.
100% of total funds will be given over to Red Cross.
I think all families would be thankful to lend a helping hand after this disaster.
Your small contribution will make a huge difference in bringing relief to the victims.
