Two weeks after sometimes violent protests erupted over the death of African-American Freddie Gray, who sustained injuries in Baltimore police custody, Prince threw what he called a Rally 4 Peace at a downtown arena in which he debuted live a song dedicated to the scarred US city.

I love Prince. He's been a big part of my musical life since high school. He's an amazing musician, no doubt about it, but I have a lot of problems with a concert that charges 122 to 500 bucks a seat in a community whose citizens are so wracked with poverty that no one involved in the struggles in Baltimore can afford to participate. I am also awaiting an actual dollar amount that will go into "youth programs". At first it sounded like all the profits were going to be given to charity, now they have backpeddled to some, then possibly very little.

(45,319 posts)The show had something most shows just don't have any more, da cheap seats. I don't know where your information comes from, mine comes from checking out the tickets and thinking about blowing some air miles on a flight to Baltimore.
The seats last time he played around here were far, far more expensive and also all sold out. Nobody got in for 35 dollars.

(1,883 posts)The $22 seats were sold out in seconds. The vast majority of seats were in the 300-500 dollar range. the vast majority. To the credit of the purple one, he let the nosebleed people come up to the front of the stage mid-way. Which is awesome.
But IMHO-If you are a teenager in Baltimore that got busted for raiding the CVS or the mall (according to Rachel Maddow, over 30 percent of those youth had no prior experience with the law), you were not able to attend this rally 4 peace. Who exactly needs this peace and more importantly...SHOW ME THE MONEY. Jay-Zee and Prince have more than enough.
