Staver: Gay Marriage Will Lead To Another Holocaust And 'The Ghettoization Of Christianity'
On today's "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast, Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver seized on right-wing fears that anti-gay organizations will lose their tax-exempt status if the Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage to predictably warn that the U.S. is on the verge of turning into a modern-day Nazi Germany.
"We're talking about the ghettoization of Christianity," Staver said, "and this is what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany, they put the Jews in ghettos, they put other people in ghettos. They took away their ability to earn a living, then they isolated them to ghettos, they stigmatized them, they ultimately destroyed their humanity in the minds of others and then the next step was easy, in the sense that they had gone to the point where they had lost respect for humanity."
"This is a serious manner because this ghettoizes Christianity," he continued. "This stigmatizes those who have Christian beliefs. This ultimately punishes those and prohibits those individuals from earning a living or working in the marketplace. And this is the beginning of ultimately dehumanizing the person and when you dehumanize the person, terrible things can happen" http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/staver-gay-marriage-will-lead-another-holocaust-and-ghettoization-christianity

(6,409 posts)I guess Shaver can be forgiven for overlooking the incredibly obvious fact that the Nazis ghettoized gays, made them wear special identifying badges, prohibited them from holding jobs, gassed some of them, thought they could eliminate gays and lesbians through eugenics, and all sorts of nice touches. I mean, the guy is so block-headed, rock bottom stupid I can't find it in my heart to condemn him. This kind of thing is almost funny, if not for the fact he has followers who listen to him and give him money.

(45,851 posts)All you have to do to keep your religion from being known is shut your yap. I've been doing that about my atheism for most of my life at this point, no one beyond immediate family knows I'm an atheist and not even all of them.

(14,040 posts)It means they see the writing on the wall and have to pick a new favorite target to hate on because the majority of Americans won't take them hating on the LGBT community any longer. I think it's ironic this is the one thing in all of the bible that they've tied their wagons to. But I can also see where they're coming from... I mean, we took away slavery, then we kinda, sorta made women equal and now we're taking away the gays. They'll have to work to find something else to hate (or favor, depending on what it is) and we know how they get stuck in a rut.
As much as I'd like to round up the hateful extremist christians and shoot them into outer space, it's just not going to happen. They'd round up gay people and put them in camps before christians were put in camps.
