A whole new tactic against homophobes that I just witnessed, and boy does it have me thinking!

I live in Houston, which is kind of an lightly liberal Oasis in the middle of a huge conservative desert. For lunch today I went to one of my favorite eat spots in town called the Hobbit Cafe (excellent food and ale, but I digress).

I was sitting in one of the side dining rooms, when I saw my waitress suddenly start yelling the most horrendous things at this group of men in the front dining area. She was calling them faggots, yelling at them to get out, that we don't serve queers, and every time any of the group members even tried to speak up she'd cut them off and yell something like "I said get out faggot!".

Needless to say, myself and much of the restaurant was stunned by this, as this is a place that is definitely heavy with liberal clientele, and even more shocking since I know this waitress, and I know she's a lesbian and quite out and quite supportive of the community.

After the group high tailed it out of there, her and the manager stepped up and announced that my waitress had witnessed the guys talking bad about gays, and talking about their support of laws that support discrimination, so she pretended to think they were gay and give them some of their own medicine that they support to see what it feels like to be on the receiving end of it.

I've got to say, I'd never really thought about it before, but DAMN that's a brilliant approach! You live in a state that allows this discrimination, you get a customer that's obviously in support of it.. pretend you think they are gay and kick them out on their arses because of it.

had i heard that scene going on nearby....

i don't like the idea of using terms like "faggot" even if it's to teach a pointed lesson to a bigot.

points for creativity, though!!

5. Had it been some other kind of establishment, I think I would have too.

I was just shocked and stunned because of the type of place Hobbit Cafe it.. It's a place that has a varied menu, but a large selection of vegetarian and Vegan fare, and a very liberal/progressive atmosphere.. the vast majority of the staff are fellow LGBT.

If it had been a Chili's, or forbid a chic-filet (which I wouldn't have been in to begin with), I'd have been out of there on the first outburst.. for it to unfold in a place like this though.. I was temporarily stunned and shocked in silent inaction.

They were in a larger room off of the smaller room i was in, and this place is full for lunch. I have no idea where they were at with their lunch, if they'd even ordered yet, or what.. the way it unfolded and as fast as they got out of there, I'm pretty sure there was no bill paid.

... someone yelling kike or spic at bigots to try to shame them for their bigotry. I don't like hearing those words at all. I doubt LGBT folks like hearing f----t.

10. might have worked, or they might have had a suit for violating their religious belief.

In this state religion is protected, we are not when it comes to discrimination. This way, they have no recourse in the state of Texas, since it's quite legal to throw someone out just for being gay now. At least that's my thoughts on it, I don't know if she considered that at all or not.

13. That one could blow up on you too easy. Not a bad idea but too risky. A couple customers might not

catch what that was all about. I never use that particular F-word, even in cases where I might think it appropriate. Like a similar situation, calling out a redneck asshole. About anyone might not realize I'm using his hatred of gay people against him. I'm not comfortable saying that anyway.

I would have liked to have a couple years ago though. Dude had it coming to him and I almost let him have it right in front of his wife and teenage son. I'm usually satisfied to stare a guy down and let it go though.

rather than use homosexuality as a slur. I do agree with shaming them, though.
