My 2 cents on Obama's support for Gay Marriage:

The President's support for equal rights for all Americans aka support of
the right for gay people to get married will not hurt the President one bit
in his campaign for re-election. Anybody who is a one issue voter over
gay marriage was not going to vote for Obama anyway. Because they are
no doubt religious right fundy haters* who did not support the President in the
past and would not have supported him this fall either. And as per "the story"
that Ohio '04 was lost to Kerry because of the turn out of "values voters" who
were worried about gay marriage that was just a Karl Rove produced cover
story to obscure the fact that W bush got Ohio 2004 by cheating but the media
was more than willing to push it 24/7 even though many people in the media
knew that exit polls had John Kerry winning by a comfortable margin.

* and yes there is a segment of the African American population that is very
anti-gay but that is dwarfed by the overwhelming #s of people of color
(Christian or not) who are thrilled with having an African American as President.

The President did the right thing and those who argue against what he did are
@ their very core anti American because EVERYBODY is covered under the equal
protection clause of the 14 the amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"no state shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Obama lover. She stated she wasn't sure how she felt about the LGBT community and their wanting to be able to get married. She is much older than I so I mentioned Dr. King and the civil rights he fought for. I told her it was the same thing really, only LGBT people want to be recognized as legally married and it is a civil rights issue. She got it. Asked me if I thought Dr. King would approve, I stated he would embrace it. She nodded her head and we then talked of other things.

It's as if we finally stepped into the 21st Century. And I also think that it would probably be a good thing if racist homophobes went INTO the closet while they're at it. This country would be a lot more of a loving place if they did.

The people w/ the protected special rights are the tax free religious right christians
who have for years spewed hatred about people who have done them no harm because
they know that their God wants them to be bigots. Their protected free speech has hurt
and caused the deaths of millions of GLBT people especially young gay people.

My folks, in their 80s, have had a wonderful gay couple move in across the street from
them and they are really great people who have been great neighbors too.
