On the campaign front, Obama just very effectively took control of the media cycle

First of all, I believe our President meant exactly what he said, but politically speaking, I also think this was brilliant. He changed the media cycle about how this country is actually conservative to openly throwing down the gauntlet. "This is where I stand. If I am reelected, the country will stand with me."
