Cuba has agreed to share lung cancer vaccine with the United States

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/05/13/1384530/-Cuba-has-agreed-to-share-lung-cancer-vaccine-with-the-United-States

Cuba has for several years had a promising therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer. The 55-year trade embargo led by the US made sure that Cuba was mostly where it stayed. Until—maybe—now.

The Obama administration has, of course, been trying to normalize relations with the island nation. And last month, during New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s visit to Havana, Roswell Park Cancer Institute finalized an agreement with Cuba’s Center for Molecular Immunology to develop a lung cancer vaccine and begin clinical trials in the US. Essentially, US researchers will bring the Cimavax vaccine stateside and get on track for approval by the Food and Drug Administration.

I have a nephew with cancer that is not expected to live and one of my brothers is going under the knife for prostate cancer late next month. I've been scared to death about a growth in one of my lungs also that the doctors are watching closely now.
I also have another nephew who is in remission right now from lymphoma

This vaccine could save a great many lives. I wonder why we haven't heard much about it?

Thanks for posting this informative article, eridani. I'm bookmarking it, because I've know way too many people who have died from lung cancer, and most of them were not smokers.

But why would the corporate owned MSM want to advertise something that would obviously not be acceptable by the wealthy old school Cubans and Big Corporate pharmaceuticals.

and still in the testing phases in Cuba. There are agreements in place to start testing soon in the US, Europe, and Japan.

This is why other countries are beating cancer and other diseases while we keep nursing our beloved and shelling out hundreds of millions to watch them die slowly. I've lost my Uncle and my wife lost her God son thanks to cancer.

"Cuba has for several years had a promising therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer. The 55-year trade embargo led by the US made sure that Cuba was mostly where it stayed."

Only the US has had trade restrictions with Cuba. Europe, Canada, Japan, etc. have been freely traveling and trading with Cuba for years. These countries also have as good or better cancer researchers as the US. Why haven't other countries jumped onto such a significant cancer vaccine 5 years ago when it was released?

If an article starts with hyperbole like "55-year trade embargo led by the US made sure that Cuba was mostly where it stayed", then I'm not so sure how credible it is.

I'd love for this to be true, as my father died from lung cancer, but I've been around enough to see dozens of these type of stories come and go and this one doesn't sound credible.

Why haven't the Europeans been using this or been testing this years ago?

Almost all the headlines regarding CimaVax are sensationalist. The vaccine isn't on the market in Cuba, they're in the 3rd round of clinical trials. There are agreements in place to start trials in the US, Europe, and Cuba in the coming months.

The article starts with "Cuba has for several years had a promising therapeutic vaccine against lung cancer. The 55-year trade embargo led by the US made sure that Cuba was mostly where it stayed."

The trade restrictions between the US and Cuba has nothing to do with it's availability.

When an article starts with an outright lie, it's hard to take it seriously.

It was first developed in 2011, and started to undergo clinical trials. Cuba doesn't have shit until all the trials are done and it's efficacy is proven.
