Reflecting on his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign against Barack Obama, Alan Keyes writes in WorldNetDaily today that it was during that race that he became convinced that Obama is “a hardline socialist ideologue, in the ruthless, self-worshiping mold Hitler and Stalin had in common.”

3. How does Alan Keyes even earn a living?

He is local to here, supposedly living in nearby Darnestown, but he is unknown locally. I've never seen him, or know of anyone who has.

And what does he do to get paid?

8. When he ran against Obama,

he allegedly moved into an Illinois suburban neighborhood. I knew people there. They kept looking for him discreetly, and never found any evidence of him.

Also, when my son was commuting, he went to a train station where the Keyes campaign was giving out free coffee and donuts one morning. Keyes' first name was spelled "Allen" on the cups. It made my son's day.

6. I am surprised to hear that Keyes outspent Obama.

I remember thinking at the time that the Illinois GOP nominated him in order to embarrass Obama and make his victory meaningless, since it was over a joke of an opponent. Obama had been on track to badly defeat his GOP opponent, Jack Ryan, before a scandal drove him from the race.
