Pull The Plug: Patriot Act on life support

A stalemate in the Senate would leave the FBI and National Security Agency (NSA) without powers they have used to track terrorists for years, say supporters of the Patriot Act.

Without action by the end of the month, key provisions of the Patriot Act will expire, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) argues would put the United States at a pre September 11, 2001-footing.

Yet McConnell has no definite path to extend those provisions.
He and other hawkish senators are pressing for an extension of the key Patriot Act measures, but they are opposed by other senators, the White House and a majority of House lawmakers in both parties.

But it will probably pass. Just another hiccup for the status quo. Way too many jobs to be lost if the Patriot Act doesn't get extended. I bet people working for intelligence aren't even sweating over this report.

Just like the Kabuki with Fast Track....and so many other things.

Corporate Democrats will pretend to have grave concerns until the very end, when they will join with Republicans to shove it down our throats once again.

"Key Patriot Act measures....are opposed by...the White House...." my ASS. This administration has gone to the mat to defend this piece of shit repeatedly.

We are treated like blithering idiots. So tired of the lying.

the Patriot Act. Of course Gen Clapper and Gen Alexander are laughing their heads off, because they know that it really doesn't matter. We've gone past the tipping point of controlling the Black State.

"...they are opposed by other senators, the White House and a majority of House lawmakers in both parties." It is not only republicans who oppose PBO just because.
