It sounds like what they're calling it: a brawl — with somewhere around 100(?) criminals shooting and stabbing each other. Of course, since this was Texas, that means lots and lots of guns.

And the reports I've seen very explicitly identify the participants as members of "criminal gangs."

It was not a riot, it was a brawl. I don't see any racism in that. There are different types of violence with different words to use for them. How could you call that a riot? They were not protesting anything. They were criminals fighting each other. And they have been called thugs and will be called thugs.
