Different take on it here: TPP is the Trojan Horse for his immigration agenda.

A real beauty from the American Thinker:

Thousands more out there like these. Many are blatantly based in racism. Obama has been a Trojan Horse for the Muslim Brotherhood/Sharia Law/socialism since before he was elected the first time. We are just witnessing a different spin. The black guy can't actually believe what he is saying, he is actually tricking you into letting him bring the enemy in. He must be a Trojan Horse. When they bring it here just understand what it is. Very personal attacks from those simply following others and the thought process of not wanting discussion but to simply yell.

Thanks for clearing this up.
They just like to stir things up. But we don't know anyone like that here on DU, or do we? "If" people really believe this kind of bullshit, then why are the posting on a board that "supports democrats"? I am sure they could get their own board, encourage people to come there and then bash the shit out of Obama and every other democrat they say is not "A REAL DEMOCRAT, PROGRESSIVE, OR POPULIST"! Couldn't they? Unless they just like spreading right wing BS for some reason or another, and that's why they stay! What do you think Manny?

(114,904 posts)piece is rooted in racism- and I don't think that noting that the President has lied about the TPP, as both Senator Warren and Paul Krugman did yesterday, has anything to do with either being a racist.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Politicians stretch the truth when making arguments on policy all the time (and yes some of the anti-TPP stuff has also stretched the bounds of credibility).
cali
(114,904 posts)the case with Warren or particularly with Krugman who is a strong supporter of President Obama's. And yes, some of the anti-tpp stuff has clearly stretched the bounds of credibility but that appears stem more from ignorance than intent to deceive- at least here. I haven't seen any lies from Politicians who oppose it, though I'm not denying the possibility that they have. The President, at the very least, has pushed right up to the line between stretching truth and outright lying, and it doesn't come out of ignorance.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)The reason people's imaginations run wild on TPP--at least partly--can be traced to the secrecy. Hard to rebut even the wildest arguments when you don't have anything to work with.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)and I'm sorry to say very dishonestly. You can deny it but the record stands. I explained here if you don't follow:
http://upload.democraticunderground.com/10026649703
cali
(114,904 posts)been saying for over 20 years. It's a patently ridiculous charge. Again, let me refute your absurd claims:
Here's why: Sanders and Warren have claimed for months that TPP (the trade bill) is being negotiated in secret and is a scary bad thing, and that TPA (fast track authority) should be defeated. Warren for example writes in her latest e-mail appeal:
Senator Sanders' main and most frequent objections about the TPP have NOT been about secrecy.
Let's send a loud message to our trade officials: No vote on a fast-track for trade agreements until the American people can see whats in this TPP deal ISDS and everything else. http://elizabethwarren.com/blog
Yes, that's a political tactic on Warren's part, but it's true: I've posted evidence that the secrecy around the tpp is unprecedented. I'm not posting it again. Find it yourself. It's in an op.
But they both know that without TPA, there won't be any trade bill, because the parties won't sign off without it. But if TPA does pass, Warren and Sanders get exactly what they claim to want -- public access to the complete, final TPP. From the Wyden TPA bill summary:
Yes they know that not passing the TPA will kill the TPP and conversely they know that passage of the TPA assures passage of the TPP. Get enough votes for the TPA and you've got the votes to pass the TPP. Period. This is as well known in D.C. as anything I can think of. More importantly, the President could release the TPP text now. That doesn't mean giving up the TPA and ergo doesn't mean that other parties would walk. You do know that other trade agreements have passed without the TPA, right?
New and expanded provisions . . . Require USTR to publish trade agreements 60 days before signing them, and to publish detailed summaries of U.S. proposals throughout.
http://www.finance.senate.gov/download/?id=FEC41212-F7AF-4A6D-BF83-978401999DAF
So if they were honest, Warren and Sanders would join President Obama in calling for swift passage of the TPA in order to complete the negotiating process and get the bill before the public as soon as possible. But they aren't. I wonder why?
They aren't calling for it for to be passed because they want to defeat the TPP- something that Sanders in particular has been open about: He wants to kill it. Period.
and we are done, because you keep repeating the same false stuff trying to bludgeon people with it.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)p.s. lest there be any confusion, the title above is , and I stand by my OP.
.............
ETA: the problem with the "ends justify the means" is that they don't. Implying that the president is dishonestly hiding something for whatever noble purpose basically leads to the kind of memes we're discussing here. And that's just one problem. Another is that it calls into question the credibility of all their claims about TPP, including the report released today. And that's a real problem.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Didn't even infer it. My point was about the origins of the meme which are clearly based in racism. As early as last week the meme was used in a racist manner, that is in my op. Actually, one sentence in my op makes clear I am putting a space between the origins of this meme with respect to Obama and the "journalist" who used it in a different manner. Though the origins are clear.

The very fact that Obama has occupied the White House for the last 6.5 years has driven them utterly insane. They can't take it anymore.
Unfortunately for them, the Republican party has a huge uphill battle to take the White House in 2016 because of the electoral college.

(650 posts)I have a LOT of Facebook friends and relatives who are programmed by Fox News. If you asked most of them, their hot-button issue is immigration. I am dead set against the TPP. My right winger peeps don't see eye to eye with me on anything. It would be great if, in spite of that, they were moved to contact their Congress critter prior to this vote. This ridiculous take on the whole thing might be just what I need to convince them.

(3,431 posts)about this article. Perhaps those, who are so upset, liked
it when Obama told us he was a moderate Republican or
when he declared in India that outsourcing is great.
No President is beyond criticism, no matter which party
her represents.
We are told by a lot of DUers to take EW's refusal to
run seriously, and I have done so. Thus, I also take
it seriously if a Democratic President says that he is
a moderate Republican. So it goes.
