Bristol Palin and her fiancé Dakota Meyer have abandoned their plans to wed over Memorial Day Weekend, just two months after announcing their engagement.
"Bristol and Dakota couldnt be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding. They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held," Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin, wrote Monday in a Facebook post.
The former Republican vice presidential nominee included a message from Bristol Palin in her post. In the message, Bristol Palin addressed speculation that the wedding was called off due to Meyer's previous marriage:
Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about secret wives, Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you! Bristol
Gossip site Radar Online reported over the weekend that Meyer, an Army sergeant and 2011 Medal of Honor recipient, married another woman in 2008. The website couldn't confirm whether or not the two had since been divorced.

(29,674 posts)but it's better for all involved to call it off before then to go through with it and be miserable. I do believe that and I believe it's the best advice for anyone in that situation.
Whomever called it off should be relieved that they did it before entering a situation that is much harder to leave. I had a friend many years ago realize that, at the last minute, she wasn't ready. I told her not to do it but everyone else pointed out the money spent, how it was expected of her and that she'd have plenty of time to grow into her role as a wife and (soon-to-be) mother. Eighteen months later she's scraping every penny together for a divorce attorney.
There are things I'll laugh at and things I won't. This I won't.

(29,674 posts)I can sympathize with them, no matter how nasty and vile they might be.
In a normal situation of this type there'd also be a huge monetary loss from all the planning of the wedding. In this case I'd bet Sarah got most of it donated. If she did I'd have to give her credit for being wily enough to do so and, at the very least, it won't hurt monetarily. She's still a horrible person but damn if a nice wedding isn't expensive nowadays.
Anyway, I feel sorry for them right now and hope that they move on quickly. I can do so today because I know that in a week or two someone in that family will do something disturbing that makes me angry or say something so stupid that I shake my head and wonder how idiots make it beyond birth.

Dakota: no, it's not that, well, maybe it kinda is...
Bristol: what do you mean?
Dakota: you can't leave me alone in a room with your mom, she keeps hitting on me!
Good one! I heard the young man was already married to someone else? Well, I'll give them the privacy they requested...while they blow up social media, give interviews, post pics and use it to their advantage.
