Jerry From Ben & Jerry's Wants To Scoop Ice Cream For Bernie Sanders

Jerry From Ben & Jerry's Wants To Scoop Ice Cream For Bernie Sanders

Jerry Greenfield, one half of the duo that created Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, hopes to personally scoop ice cream for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), when Sanders officially launches his presidential campaign next week.

“I personally am a huge supporter of Bernie, and if I have the opportunity, I would like to scoop Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at Bernie’s kickoff event,” he said.

Greenfield, a longtime Vermont resident, told Gannett reporter Nicole Gaudiano on Wednesday that Sanders can count on his support.

“I love Bernie’s take on the issues about inequality in this country, about the incredible discrepancy between wealth and poor, and that we’re just not taking care of people,” Greenfield said.

Sanders will officially launch his presidential campaign next Tuesday in Burlington, Vermont. The event will feature free scoops of Ben & Jerry’s. Burlington is both the birthplace of Ben & Jerry’s and the city where Sanders began his political career; he served as mayor from 1981 to 1989, before going on to represent Vermont in the U.S. House and Senate.

No word on whether or not the company might consider crafting a custom flavor in honor of Sanders. Ben & Jerry’s has been known to create original flavors inspired by celebrities, including Stephen Colbert’s AmeriCone Dream and Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Dough. Ben & Jerry's did not immediately return a request for comment.

1. Ben just sent me an email:

It reads, in part:

Will you join me in fueling MoveOn's work to stamp Big Money out of politics? And if you give 10 bucks or more, I'll send you your very own stamp so you can spread the message on your own.

Click here to get your stamp—and help stamp Big Money out of politics—with a donation of $10 or more.

I founded the Stamp Stampede because I've realized that getting money out of politics is the single most important fight of our generation. Whether you want to break up the big banks, reduce the Pentagon's budget, or fight climate change, you have to start by reclaiming our democracy.

The Stamp Stampede has grown into a movement of tens of thousands of Americans, stamping dollar bills and circulating important ideas throughout the American economy. The more we can spread the word, the more we can build the movement. Each stamped bill will be seen an average of 875 times; it's like a petition on steroids!7

So, I'm ready to send you a stamp—and I'm ready to add my own stamp of approval to MoveOn's work. Let's not let billionaires have all the fun. This is our country. Let's stamp out Big Money and take our democracy back.

Click here to let me send you a stamp—just pitch in $10 or more to MoveOn's ongoing, long-haul work to reclaim our political system.

With you in the fight,

–Ben Cohen, Stamper-in-Chief

P.S. Here's an example of what a stamped bill looks like:

And that email is a connection between Ben and Jerry and moveon.

It can't be far off, moveon's moving on from Warren.

OTOH, maybe they're sticking with Warren for a reason.

Warren or Sanders, or both, we all win!

We need time to build the grassroots so they better not wait. If Warren hedges her bets, she will not be able to maintain integrity.

important fight of our generation". He's got that right. Nothing will work until bought and paid for Representatives no longer exist in this government.

Bernie has picked that issue as one of the main issues in his campaign and as always, his actions match his words.

This message resonates with people across the political spectrum. And for the first time, it is a major issue in a Presidential election.

I've got trolls following me around getting zapped by MIRT. I missed one, but the second just got zapped in a She She thread. Wow, I have my own collection of trolls! Hope to see their squished little head before they die again.
