Can any North Carolinians shed some light here.
Maybe a lot of rich Yankee transplant Republicans who live on the beach and have a live and let live attitude?
Help me out here.

(5,816 posts)We have an interesting mix of extremely religious folks, rich Yankee transplants (the local Teabagger movement is controlled by these folks, but others are liberal), transplants from other parts of the country (including many points South) who tend to be on the liberal side, and lots of people who don't really care what you do or who you do it to as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
The town where I live was actually one of the parts of the county that voted FOR the amendment, but we have had 2 gay mayors in our recent history and folks seemed to be fine with that. My town (which I love, btw) does however have a couple of rather large churches, one which was plastered with signs to vote for the amendment - I'm sure it was also preached from the pulpit.
I have no idea how things will go in November. I would like to think my county will go blue but I'm not going to bet the farm on it.
