The men survived the shooting, and the case was immediately turned over to outside investigators.
The 50 or so demonstrators, waving signs and chanting "No Justice, No Peace," marched for about a half-hour outside at City Hall in Olympia, the state capital.
Olympia Police Chief Ronnie Roberts said there was no immediate indication that race played a factor in the confrontation near a grocery store where the men had allegedly tried to steal beer about 1:15 a.m. (4:15 a.m. ET).

WTF? When questioned, the spokesan said that "the same opportunity is offered to witnesses and victims"
Then it started getting heated, and the prosecutor took the cop spokesman's place.

(3,508 posts)Interesting though that the spokesman phrased it as though it is standard protocol to wait with officers, whether or not the officer chooses to.
