Officer Orozco was killed with a 9MM semi-auto handgun with a 50 round magazine content warning

Transcript of Police Chief Todd Schmaderer's remarks at Thursday press conference: http://www.omaha.com/transcript-of-police-chief-todd-schmaderer-s-remarks-at-thursday/article_fbb79e92-0011-11e5-89de-e719a1cceeba.html

She never fired a shot. She was struck just above her bullet proof vest. It exited her back and lodged in her vest. All officers on the scene had .45's. The press conference is live and continuing now.

I know the Sgt. that returned fire and killed the suspect Marcus D. Wheeler very well.

More information will be online shortly.

UPDATE 1: http://www.omaha.com/news/metro/police-chief-schmaderer-offers-details-in-shootout-that-killed-omaha/article_5dca8cbe-fff6-11e4-b4e0-a35d2c0c84b1.html

Among the information he released:
• Preliminary autopsy results show that Orozco died from a gunshot wound to the chest, just above the ballistic vest line. The 9mm bullet passed through her chest and exited through her back.

• Sgt. Jeffrey Kopietz was the only police officer to discharge his weapon during the shootout. Kopietz fire three to four shots at Wheeler. Kopietz, who began working for the department in 1991, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

• Wheeler was armed with a Glock 9mm handgun with high capacity drum-type magazine. He fired at least nine rounds. Preliminary autopsy results for Wheeler are not available.

• All officers at the scene were armed with Glock .45-caliber handguns.

If the civilian populace is so heavily equipped, what armoury should the civilian police force be equipped with to serve and protect them?

In Britian, or Canada, or most of Europe, Japan, etc. the police do not need to be heavily armed or armed at all and a fraction of gun violence and death occurs.....there is only one logical solution to gun deaths and violence of all sorts in America, and more guns is....not it.
