He has a winning track record and is the first openly gay person to run a presidential campaign. And he has not worked for MONSANTO. So you can discard the lie in the recent OP that claims a Monsanto lobbyist is running her campaign.

No one here at DU, piling on so anxiously, vetted that story at all--it took me thirty seconds and Google to find the Washington TIMES source. It wasn't like trying to find the source of the Nile!
You'd think people here would be smarter. So many were so easily fooled. Doesn't say much for their judgment.
Always ask that 'cui bono' question when some curious and crazy news item causes your heart to sink or sing. Or as an old guy with dementia once quoted from an old Russian proverb (wisely--but probably because someone else wrote the riff for him) 'Trust but verify.'
MADem
(135,425 posts)Isn't "never mind that....LOOK OVER THERE!!! Ooooh!!! OOOOOH!!!!" (point!!! point!!!) a hallmark of DU "debate?
Here's how I regard those sorts of things--if people have to resort to lies, innuendos, or wingnut sources--or even worse, the latest one I've noticed--trying to get away with using NO LINK or citation at all--then they're already saying, "Hey, I recognize that I have already lost the debate, I'm just firing for effect, here."
I think the best course of action is to stick to the truth, and the high road. People who can't do that, who have to lie and smear and resort to Newsmax and Drudge and Breitbart for their talking points, why, they're to be pitied. They're going to spend a lot of time shoveling sand against the tide. At the end of the day, they'll still be mired on the beach!

Hillary's Pick for Her Political Fixer in Iowa Is a Classic Illustration of America's Political Corporate Insider Problem
Monsanto-linked Jerry Crawford doesn't inspire much hope.
By Zaid Jilani / AlterNet
March 9, 2015
Monsanto's Man In Iowa
Before joining Clinton's campaign in 2008, Crawford served in a variety of high-profile political roles. In addition to a variety of local positions, he served as the Iowa chair for the presidential campaigns of Mike Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerryeach one the more conservative candidates in their Democratic presidential primaries.
So it was a natural fit for Crawford to sign up for the Hillary campaign. But after Clinton's 2008 loss, Crawford spent his days at Crawford Muaro, his law and lobbying firm. While there, he represented a variety of corporate clients, including Kraft and Altria (the parent company of Philip Morris USA). He also served as a lawyer for Jack DeCoster, a factory farm tycoon who infamously supplied eggs that led to a salmonella outbreak. His most prominent client, however, was Monsanto.
Monsanto, the agricultural and biotechnology corporation founded in Missouri, is known worldwide for its abuses against the environment and practices designed to crush farm competition. Iowa is a farming state, with agriculture making up a large share of its total economy.
The 2010 Agriculture Secretary election was particularly important for Monsanto; as one Iowa blogger noted, it holds patents on most of the corn and soybeans grown in Iowa. The company was also the subject of an antitrust investigation. The Democratic nominee for the spot, Francis Thicke, was a critic of Monsanto and a backer of antitrust actions against the big agricultural companies. Thus it wasn't long before Monsanto took aim at Thicke, allying itself to the Republican nominee and incumbent, Bill Northey.

Are all those people evil too?
He has also worked as a lawyer/lobbyist for Monsanto. That still does make any of the above evil.

(135,425 posts)honking "Hillary's new campaign manager is from Monsanto" lie is. It's the whole reason for this thread, which pushes back against a Big Lie that was being spread in order to discredit and vilify. It took an anonymous blog post and presented it as gospel. The source of the blog post, because Google is Our Friend, was a piece of shit published--where else?--in the Rev. Sun Myung Moon wingnut TIMES.
Smearing and propagandizing don't end well when they happen in a small community like DU. It's best to stick to the simple truth.
I think we would have a better government if everyone did that in all levels of public life --of course, we probably wouldn't have a GOP majority in the House or Senate in that case....
