After Today's Backstabbing... On A Scale Of 1 To 10... How Thrilled Are You To Support...

The Democratic Party ???

1 being tepid...to 10 being enthusiastic.

As of this afternoon... I'm at a 1.

Now don't get me wrong...

I'm thrilled as hell to support Bernie...

And remember, MOST Democrats voted AGAINST the TPP... But...

The way the horse-trading/vote whipping goes...

Is that after the backroom deals are forged, then the REAL negotiating begins.

This will really hurt me in my state...

I'm not running, I'm retiring...

If you could get that Dam project approved...

I'm in trouble in 2016... could you come campaign with me, or...

I'm in trouble in 2016... could you stay the hell away from my state ?

For the people MY ASS !!!

I cant remember a candidate who didn't disappoint once they had our votes.

I'm going as far back as Carter there.

I was so hopeful that Obama was going to be the first, but that didnt work out.

Lets hope we can get either Sanders or Warren elected, they are the only two that I believe would honestly try and promote the issues they campaign on.

Hillary is playing it too coy, under-promising so we cant hold her accountable.

I've had enough of that game.

FDR, and it wouldn't make a difference nationally, or even state-wide.

For the time being, California is gonna go Dem.

But when Democrats and young people about to be of voting age, see this shit...

They get discouraged, they think... what's the use...

And in the past, I could give them the "pep talk"...

But not today.

And as I said, my state seems to recently be reasonable... and that could change down the road.

But as of this moment... I have very little fight left in me.

And I'm not alone.

I think the TPA passed the Senate 62-something because of some Export/Import Bank dealie Cantwell finagled. Need to verify that. So now, on to the House, where Pelosi has said she wants something to pass, but is expressing the obligatory reservations.

78. This Time, Senate Votes to Advance Trade Pact
Fri May 22, 2015, 12:31 AM
May 2015
....

The bill, the first to grant a president trade promotion authority since 2002, still must weather a bunch of amendment votes on Friday, but Senate passage is now likely before the Memorial Day weekend, Senate leaders said. That would set up a difficult showdown early next month in the House, where Mr. Obama will have to work to persuade Democrats to back him.

....

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/22/business/senate-obama-trade-pact-export-import-bank-patriot-act.html?_r=0

Obama's trade bill narrowly clears a key Senate hurdle

....

The 62-38 vote, two more than the 60 needed, came from a solid phalanx of Republicans and more than a dozen Democrats. But the decisive thumbs-up came — literally, and long past the allotted time — from Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington after she and a few others seized the moment as leverage to demand a vote next month on legislation to renew the Export-Import Bank.

....

Democratic support is weak, given the opposition of organized labor. But Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, the party's leader, has yet to announce her position and has said repeatedly she hopes to be able to facilitate the bill's passage.

....

http://www.wral.com/obama-s-trade-allies-scramble-to-line-up-60-senate-votes/14659915/

Mitch McConnell is happy. Awesome.

It makes no sense to be on a board whey you claim you don't support the party. Some here said 0 to his question, he said 1, others put down negative numbers. Just what the hell are they trying to prove? It sure isn't supporting the party, that plain to see.

of the party. Always have, always will. I don't mind that. I learn a lot from them. I agree with them on most issues. Some of the negativity here, it's like 'I didn't get what I want so the democratic party sucks.' I don't agree with that. Democrats achieve a lot of victories. We'll continue having victories.

It doesn't bother me too much. When it does I step away from the keyboard. I can understand why they aren't happy about it. Whether they say 1 or 3 or -4 or whatever, regarding what happened today. I personally would like to see a stronger coalition of left-leaning democrats. If that develops it will develop outside of computers & message boards. I can't see how it would develop by people turning their backs on the democratic party. Turning their backs on candidates or incumbents that they don't like, I can see that as a viable option.

I do wish people would vote in congressional elections and in every state and local election. And vote for liberal candidates. We won't win every battle. This particular one, many here feel that's it's a major loss. So I can understand they are pissed off. Whether they will translate any of it into a meaningful coalition in Congress or outside of it remains to be seen. I do feel our country would benefit by moving further left. Particularly in raising taxes on the rich, spending less on the military, and in investing in our education and infrastructure here at home.

I have no problem with people being angry, or with them speaking out, but some here take that to an extreme, and do so on a daily basis, day in and day out, it it really gets old listening to how much the dislike, or hate what the party is doing, how terrible all the democrats who disagree with them are, and then come on the boards and stir up shit to get their message out about how they are pissed off at the party, or the candidates they don't support. Doom and gloom is not the way to unite the party and get things done. The main goal should be to make damn sure we don't get more republicans elected, from the WH on down, but especially the WH in 2016. I don't see all the negativity from some on this board as helping to reach that goal.

I think many of us here on DU want the same things, we just have a different idea of who is going to work for us in trying to get the things we want. Right now I don't know who I will vote for in the primary. I like what I hear from O'Malley and hope to hear more on the issues from him after he announces he will be running. I like Bernie but honestly don't think he can win. Not a fan of Hillary, but no matter who wins the nomination I "WILL" be supporting them. The 2016 election is going to be a very important one for this country, and there is now way this country can afford another republican in the WH! The bottom line is that any of our candidates will be a million times better than ANY republican.

Locally. Talking with people. Sharing our interest in politics. I agree that most of us here want the same things and want a better society overall. I'd be very happy voting for any of those choices you mention. I'm not really here to persuade anyone else too much. I'm more interested in sharing what I have in common with others of similar interests, and seeing where we might differ too. I remind myself sometimes that most everyone who posts here, I really think I'd like them offline in real life. The same does not go for republicans - I don't like them and try and stay away from them as much as possible. Hope you enjoy a good weekend.

You can be pissed all you want, but when you try and get people all worked up by posting something like this thread, you only make things worse. If your pissed off then use your votes to show how pissed you are, but why come on, and this is not the first time you have done this, and get people to say they don't support the party. I don't have to embrace this kind of posting, and I don't care if they will be on "my" side later. I have no side right now, but one thing for sure I am NOT going to bash Hillary, even though I won't be voting for her in the primary, and I won't bash Bernie because I agree with him on many things. I will speak out when I think what is being posted is wrong, and I really don't care if you think having people like me on this board is a bad thing. I support democrats being elected, period. I support my president, period. And even if I disagree with the way some senators vote, I am not going to take it out on the party by telling people how little I support that party. That's just the way I am.

I'm sorry if that is too bleak a view for you, but that is realistic. Cheap labor is everywhere and in this global economy
it will be utilized, if not by us that other foreign countries. Is this a jaded view, maybe, but I think it's more realistic. Made
by Americans, for Americans will only get you so far. I'd rather be outraged by teacher pay, Better way of equaling spreading out funding for schools, training programs for the jobs that will be available in the US. Housing for the homeless, universal health care,
women's rights!!

There are a whole host of things I want to focus on, none of which are Republican platforms. So yes, I am excited to for a

I live in the now, and now I need equal pay, gay rights , better healthcare plans, liberal judges to uphold Roe v Wade, etc.

the only reason to support Democrats is just to keep the republicans from screwing us worse?

Make no mistake this trade deal benefits the 1% and the multinationals at the expense of American workers--just like all the others before it. That's why the republicans love it. And a Democratic president is championing it against the better judgment of most of his party.

Democratic leaders continue to kick labor and the left in the nuts. They believe those groups have nowhere else to go. That may be true in the short term, but things change eventually.

It happened in 2010 and republicans took advantage of a huge enthusiasm gap to win federal and state races, which has had disasterourous consequences for those of us on the left. We can not afford for it to happen again or one day the republicans will make everything a thousand times worse than today's bad news.
