In Texas, courts turn truancy cases into cash

Texas is one of only two states in the U.S. to prosecute truancy as an adult criminal offense — Wyoming is the other — and the volume of cases is staggering: In 2013, Texas had more than twice as many truancy cases as the other 49 states combined. Truancy is also the number one reason children in Texas encounter the criminal justice system.

Classes was attended, did not seem to matter. I don't know where they expect to be in a few years, high school education is a minimum achievement. If they don't care about going to school I doubt they are going to want to work and especially with the jobs they would be able to get.
