Seems if they are going to forced to issue marriage license to Same Sex couple., Alabama is going to quit issuing marriage license.

People enter into contracts all the time without a lawyer. If you buy a home, a car, or even an airplane ticket you are entering into a contract and few people hire lawyers for such things. A marriage contract would only require signed witnesses or a notary stamp to be solidly legal as any marriage license.

(13,340 posts)I think the state does have vested interest in ensuring all parties consent, and I guess I'm old fashioned, but Fathers should not marry daughters, etc. etc.

(67,102 posts)some want to inject their god, churches and all of that into it, but really, in the big picture it is just another contract. I'm OK with all states and churches getting out of the marriage business. Two people do the contract, fine, then if they want to layer that with religion and churches, fine, it's up to them.
