First, the right wing does indeed seek to outlaw marriage equality. It's now legal in many places and in most of those there is at least some effort to turn back the clock and outlaw it. Proposition 8 was one (unfortunately successful) example. Several Republican candidates for President (possibly a majority of them) have endorsed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would outlaw it nationwide. Yes, they also say that it should never have become legal at all, but that doesn't change the fact that, as of today, they do want to turn the clock back and outlaw it.

Second, you refer to "the unified view of the Straight Community until about 3 years ago." At one point it would have been fair to refer to a "unified view of the Straight Community" against same-sex marriage, but that was much more than three years ago. Marriage equality came to the Netherlands in 2001 and to Canada in 2004 (some provinces) and 2005 (nationwide). Even if you meant only the United States, Massachusetts led the way in 2004, with other states following by judicial decision. New York, in 2011, was the first U.S. state to enact marriage equality by vote of an elected legislature. Well before 2011 or even 2004, of course, there was no "unified view of the Straight Community" on the subject. Straights (I don't know if the phrase "Straight Community" even makes sense) were and still are divided on the subject.
