When I was in high school we had Spirit Week. One of the days was "Nerd Day".

I dressed in a nerd-like fashion (tape on glasses, pleated skirt halfway up my waist, and mismatched knee socks). As I walked in the door to Algebra class the boy who sat behind me said, "How come you didn't dress up today?" and the class laughed. On "Toga Day", he undid the pin to the sheet I wore and it fell (No worries, people, I had clothes on underneath) tripping me up so that I fell as we walked out of class.

Ten years later he walked up to me at a Christmas Party held by a mutual friend...and apologized for being an ass. He had never forgotten the crappy things he had done. When I look back on those days I consider the pranks that he pulled to be hijinks. He did not physically alter my appearance. Sure it was embarrassing but all that was hurt was my pride.

He grew to be a fine man. And I was surprised that he even apologized at all. It wasn't necessary, but it was really appreciated.

Mitt Romney? Not so much. If he actually "forgot" this vicious attack on a classmate...well that makes him pretty damned twisted.

It was probably because he saw how hot you are now and thought he might have a shot if he apologized!

ever realize that they were really assholes.

For example, Romney's non-apology apology shows that he doen't think he did anything wrong. I'm sure that before this story came out, if Romney had seen John Lauber at a school reunion he would have gone up to him all fake-friendly trying to share some lulz over Mitt's wild and crazy antics. Actually apologizing to the man would never have crossed his mind.

The difference is that some people realize that they were jerks, and other people don't.

He went straight form being a high school bully to being a college aged ass. From there he went on to help take over companies and "prune out" the riff raff. Too bad if he was personally responsible for many people being given a pink slip. Why would he care?

But glad to hear the story you told us here today. Glad to hear this one person did grow up and change into a better person.

pinching HARD the triceps area of the arms. He never really got mad at me. A few years later, we wound up hanging out together on the weekends, going places, having good times together.
His mother would always give me the 'eye' when I went over their house. One night he told me, his mother didn't like me because of what I did to him in high school. I was speechless. I had forgotten ALL about it.
I apologized to him, telling him I was a jerk. He laughed, the way he still laughs about things to this day. He has a wonderful wife and daughter, who is slightly older then my oldest.
Their wedding was a blast, they still laugh at a photo of the best man holding the glass of champagne during the toast.
Both of them are looking directl at the glass.
They were doig this becaus I was so nervous giving the toast the glass was shaking and the champagne was spilling all over the table!
I had to refill it, before I drank to their future.

THere is a way to do it, you have to find it inside you.
