p.s. Makes you wonder who will end up being the GOP nominee when the convention delegates vote. At this point it looks like Romney is going down!

(9,753 posts)Or something else later down the track, it's certain-sure that he will self-destruct at some point. Perhaps not spectacularly, but more like when you ride on a flat tire eventually it falls apart.
Because the more people know about Romney, the less they like him and he didn't start out especially likeable to begin with. And that liar label against which politicians are only partially immunized will overwhelm him sooner rather than later.
Add to that his tin ear, ill-gotten wealth, and truly fucked-up ideas of governance, and it's going to take a seriously charged up righty electorate to get Romney into the Oval Office.
Or a charged electorate and black-box voting (see Kerry, John).

(60,212 posts)Usually there is some kind of cloud on the horizon before a story like that.
It makes me wonder if the reason that there's usually a cloud is because the reporter calls the candidate's old friends and the old friends call the candidate and the candidate's staff puts a little smoke puff up to give warning of the coming cloud. If that's how it usually goes down, then it's telling that Romney's old "friends" didn't have his back.

(29,381 posts)You couldn't know if it mattered, because you'd have to know how heinous your actions were. But in your sick empty head, you see these facts about YOU as being just as bad as what you have done. I see how much a sociopath hates being publicly shamed, and the first reaction usually is to try to turn the tables. Make it about the "other" not your own actions, which always speak louder than words ever will.

(53,661 posts)Rush is already on the record this week with his 'Obama's war on marriage' screed, and he'd defended Abu Graib as no worse than a fraternity initiation (prank) before this so it'll be interesting how this is going to be spun.
Now the Paulies may feel hopeful at the convention, but they have nothing to complain about with their leader and his campaign being anti civil rights for certain persons. Their godfather Alex Jones has hosted Romney cheerleader Ted Nugent, too.
All in all, I see no danger to Mittens since he's at least got the support of those who support Ryan, etc.
Just call it, business at usual in the GOP cesspool.

(53,661 posts)I wouldn't put anything below a man who has done the things he has done in the business world, knowing and reveling in harming others. This would mean nothing to him, there is no shame for this. It works for the Freepers and their ilk who refused to support him.
I've read Reichwingers defenses about such things, typically prefaced with anecdotes about how 'I was treated that way growing up and it didn't hurt me, they just need to suck it up like I did.'
In other words, the victims are wussies if they don't 'get over it.' Some become perpetrators and continue the cycle because they can't face the fact they were once victims.
Some people are not capable for a number of factors, temperament, lack of social, family or medical support to just 'get over' assaults. They die by their own hands, become perpetrators out of a sense of paranoia or wanting to win by seeing someone suffer as they did, or die slowly knowing they are not valued as human beings.
The resulting backlash from Obama's announcement was predictable, and that's why I think he was acting by stealth, not making public statements but letting the different agencies make quiet change.
But with Amendment One passing, I am thinking, just my notion, that he saw that his talking against it did no good, or did more harm than good. The people that listened to Billy Graham, who I thought of as milder than his kids, and the rest of the Tea Party in N.C. were not going to listen to him.
Now that he has forced the issue on the entire nation, look to see Rush's crusade intensify and all the Reichwing hacks come out from the cracks and crevices that Kochroaches hide under. There will be a coordinated campaign such as what Sanctorum started, unfortunately by the Catholic and rightwing pulpits across this nation. And those people always vote, always.
This is a little bit of why I get a bit testy with those who seem to want to depress the vote here at DU and elsewhere. Because regressives never fail to vote, so why hand our future over to them?
I sometimes think I'm going to scream the next time I read a "There's no difference between the parties screed!"

(47,534 posts)Huntsman's speaking Chinese is a bad thing?
freshwest
(53,661 posts)His speaking Chinese is a good thing and he's also come out against human rights abuses in China, too. Huntsman, a Mormon and Governor of UT, was made ambassador to China by Obama and adopted a girl from there.
A creepy attack video on Huntsman was posted during the N. H. primaries by NHLiberty4Paul. The Paul people claimed it was made by Huntsman or Romney, to make Paul look bad.
Romney may not have sponsored it but it hurt Paul. Since Romney won N.H., I wouldn't put it past him. He appears to be a dangerous sociopath who doesn't deserve to be in elected office.
Huntsman sounds reasonable and gets support from this article from the Guardian. Obama gave him a position in his administration by appointing him to China, but he ran against Obama. Huntsman and Romney are likely pals. It's hard to know when people run in the same circles.:

(53,661 posts)I'd hear the callers, young guys mostly, call up and say with all the enthusiasm of the most zealot Paulbot,
'You are my Hero! You are my God!'
Rush never corrected any of them. Same kind of lapdogs call in to the Alex Jones show, a big supporter of Paul.
Cults don't listen to reason and filter out all opposing facts. I won't bother with my little quote about facts, but that's irrelevant to those who will be voting for Romney and against Obama for daring to cross the Reichwing. All they have is hate and abuse.
Other than that, how goes it Aerows? It's been a while since we met on a thread. Hope things are going good.

(3,626 posts)This leads me to believe it was routine behavior -- that such incidents just blurred together, indistinguishable from each other. I mean really. If someone behaved that way, even fifty years ago, and it was an unusual act, they'd sure as hell remember it. Even if they had no remorse. I wouldn't be at all surprised if more is yet to be revealed. First Seamus, then a classmate. What's next?

(12,461 posts)Well his first response, I don't remember it...four other people remembered it...But Mittens has memory problems...honestly is that Presidential qualities we seek in a President? Well, for some reason Ronald Reagan came to mind... When that didn't work, unable to steer the conversation back to the economy, he then apologized for something he just doesn't recall. What??? Well shit, the wimp will be apologizing for America shit he doesn't know happened or not...I mean seriously?....Now he is blaming the Democrats for planting the story....

(7,402 posts)So it really makes no difference who did the research that dug up this story and leaked it to the Washington Post. The timing makes me think that it likely wasn't the Obama campaign, but even if it were, so what. Since some of those involved are expressing remorse it could be some of them stepping forward without wanting to have it attributed to them. Or it could be somebody else. Regardless, it is slimy of Romney to blame Obama without a shred of evidence to back up the reckless charge.
There have been a number of character related issues that have surfaced over the last couple of months but none of those top this. Before this broke I have posted a number of times how much Romney reminds me of Richard M. Nixon. Heck even Ann, with her comment about it being "our turn", has shown lack of judgement on an item of character.

IMO, the more voters--even staunch Republicans--hear this guy talk, the less inclined they'll be to exert the effort to vote for him in November. I predict record low turnout for Repblicans.
