Duggars, TLC, RUNN!!!!
There are serious issues with that, and have to do with sexual abuse and molestation and how we as a society treat that. But most comments have none to do with that. Nor do I expect a good discussion on sexual abuse, or how police deal with this, or the connections of money, fame and a two tier legal system.
While you are all fixated on that, and get all tied in knots over the State Department release of a certain group of emails, as part of a much larger release. you all miss in that the real nuggets, continuities from administration to administration on policies, PNAC and the global war on terror. (Free clue, it's failed, massively and the failure will be laid at the feet of the present administration by many historians in the future, never mind the roots go well to the 1990s, and in a few strains to our policy in Afghanistan under Reagan. But we are Americans and deep long thinking is not our thing)
So with that, let the alerts come and the inevitable lock. Never mind that I would like, not expect it, an actual discussion on this stuff. You know the important stuff... not navel gazing,
By the way TLC thanks you, what is the old adage in marketing? Oh yes, I don't care what you say about me, as long as you spell it right.

By the way, referencing the unintended consequences of current wind technology we are seeing new technology under development to deal with them. You know vertical bladeless turbines. This is becuase of the EU recognition that this is a reality.
This technology should address many of the complaints, Not all. I can tell you that people who live near these facilities will continue to complain that these things are eye sores. But you cannot please everybody. By the way, the Dept. of the Interior, as early as the 1990s when we had our first developments in place, identified NIMBY as an issue but I follow this crap at the policy level, not the knee jerk level.
But nice attempt, you get a 6 out of 10, at least that is an attempt at policy. Kudos for that.

(3,982 posts)doing their work while a Democratic administration is in place. By some miracle all will turn out well. Or there must be some deeper anti-strategy in the background..
Just having a democratic administration seems to have allowed PNAC to go more undercover. This is the "new and better" methodology. They are behind many of the stupidly aggressive actions throughout the world, yet because they operate more quietly under a Democratic administration many of the same people who were aware years earlier are oblivious to what is occurring.
As for being locked. That is an unfortunate "feature" of the jury system. Quite a few people use it as a way to silence *ideas* they do not agree with rather than following the intent. So if you are expressing a viewpoint that is not on the Front Page, or ahead of the curve, you have a much greater chance to be silenced. However there are many also who see through this and it is kind of a role of the die.

(94,263 posts)...and get used to the fact that this is a political site in an election year, not always interested in discussing the intricacies of the administrations of dead presidents.
Also, it's quite a load of hooha to suggest people aren't interested in those subjects just because they aren't responding to your particular appeal. I've seen myriads of discussions here on every one of the subjects you listed; many of them recent posts which you can join in on if you like.
Btw, navel gazing is perfectly fine if that's where someone's head is at the time. This isn't a freaking history class, it's a discussion board.

(94,263 posts)...you're either being obtuse or amazingly myopic.
Do you really believe everyone is engaged in trivialities and you are the only one interested in actual policy discussion?
This is insulting meta... talk about 'navel-gazing.'

(154,021 posts)I am talking of a certain release of Emails, and the GWOT and PNAC, and how they reveal continuity to the present and the failure of those, Will highlight this for you
(Free clue, it's failed, massively and the failure will be laid at the feet of the present administration by many historians in the future,
Look I get it, you dislike history, most Americans dislike thinking of last week, let alone last year, but these things are connected, and the seeds for a lot of this is not in the present but in the past.
I know you hate history, but this is why Americans cannot have nice things, we never learn from history
By the way, those emails are in this vastly larger collection.

(154,021 posts)that is history, and as far as I can tell, only one of then is dead. (Reagan) All this is pretty recent. But we should be discussing things like PNAC and their influence in the PRESENT administration, and the failure of PNAC... don't worry, I will do it, but not here. There is no interest in that.

(12,081 posts)education gets ignored, but most of us can chew gum and walk at the same time. I have commented on the TLC threads because I don't think all of the TLC shows are bad, and that some of them help people learn tolerance and acceptance of people who are different than they are. That seems pretty important to me. Having a discussion on sexual abuse is important too. It is a conversation we should be having as well.

(154,021 posts)but people are just concentrating on Josh, and not the issues with the justice system. They are widespread and if Josh Duggar was African American and not well connected it would be Josh who? Though a nice time in jail would be in his future.

Perhaps you don't realize how you sound in your post.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)that the real discussion items are being missed. Yes, there is a lot to be discussed about Josh Duggar.
Child abuse
two tier justice system
Sexual abuse
And for the most part those are missing, in fact item number 2 is mostly missing.
And you know what? People hate me anyway, so what the hell? I just pointed my view that people ignore real issues and do plenty of this, and this is why we cannot have nice things in this country. People are following the media lead on this, and plenty of other issues.

(26,582 posts)And ignore the Duggar threads
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)1.- There is no interest
2.- There are important issues with Josh that have for the most part not been addressed. You might want to read the whole thread, becuase I am not retyping. But there are policy issues here, not that for the most part you would care or you would know.
And
3.- Since I know it does not matter to people here, when I write my editorial on this, it will not run on DU. But as I told others, this inability to break and think on your own is why we cannot have nice things in this country.
I consider police and justice issues, plenty of that in this one, to be important. I have concluded that many here don't.
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)What I don't understand is why you're here. You've called DU a cesspool, requested your account closed, railed against the admins, etc, but here you are to lecture the board on what's really important (well, whatever you've deemed important) and that the rest of us are just navel gazers.
