Duggar Supporter Mike Huckabee Also Supported Early Parole Of Rapist Who Murdered After Release

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee posted on his Facebook in support of TLC star Josh Duggar, who has admitted to molesting underage girls, including four of his sisters, back in 2006. While Huckabee is suffering a huge backlash over his comments now, this isn’t the first time the Republican presidential candidate has faced accusations of supporting sexual offenders.

As reported by the Huffington Post back in 2008, while Huckabee was Arkansas governor in 1999, he played the key role in the early parole of a violent rapist, with devastating consequences. Huckabee claimed he had no way of knowing that Wayne Dumond would proceed to rape and murder at least one more woman after his release, and was set to be tried for another murder before his death in prison.

However, in 2008, the Huffington Post obtained and published the letters from victims sent to Huckabee before Dumond’s early parole, pleading with the governor that if Dumond was released, they feared he would make sure no one would be able to testify against him the next time. Huckabee denied the existence of the letters and maintained he had no culpability for his role in releasing a violent offender who had allegedly raped one of his victims at knifepoint while her 3-year-old was sleeping next to her.

The former governor maintained back in 2008 that any letters were irrelevant because the decision to release Dumond was the responsibility of the parole board, and he denied he influenced their decision for political reasons. But according to the Huffington Post, Governor Huckabee was feeling the heat from conservatives to pardon Dumond, claiming he was only convicted because one of his victims was a distant cousin of Bill Clinton and the daughter of one of Clinton’s major campaign contributors. Among those conservatives putting pressure on Huckabee was Baptist minister and radio host Jay Cole, who also is a close friend of the Huckabees.

Maurice Clemmons (February 6, 1972 – December 1, 2009) was an American who was responsible for the November 29, 2009, murder of four police officers in Parkland, Washington.[1] After evading police for two days following the shooting, Clemmons was shot and killed by a police officer in Seattle.

Prior to his involvement in the shooting, Clemmons had at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington.[2] His first incarceration began in 1989, at age 17. Facing sentences totaling 108 years in prison, the burglary sentences were reduced in 2000 by Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee to 47 years, which made him immediately eligible for parole. The Arkansas Parole Board unanimously moved to release him in 2000. Clemmons was subsequently arrested on other charges and was jailed several times. In the months prior to the Parkland shooting, he was in jail on charges of assaulting a police officer and raping a child. One week prior to the Parkland shooting, he was released from jail after posting a $150,000 bail bond.

Clemmons' murder of four police officers represents the largest number of law enforcement officers killed by one man in a single incident in U.S. history.
