I'd like to believe the candidacy of Bernie Sanders is easily strong enough to stand on its own merits without his supporters treating Barack Obama as some kind of enemy...We as a forum can at least agree on that, right??

Shouldn't it?

(16,646 posts)Obama's legacy on these issues are horrible and Sanders will be amplified/justified based upon it.
What part of that am I suppose to skip?
The degree to which Obama agreed with GW Bush upon issues is embarrassing and a legitimate issue in the primary with the anointed one.

(14,524 posts)Get him to quit trying to cram another UNWANTED shitty "free trade" down our throats and enough with the POWERGRAB of TPA and we'll go from there. That UNWANTED shitty "free trade" deal IS his legacy.

(38,437 posts)And, in direct answer to your question: it CANNOT become his legacy unless it is passed. Period.

It's beneath him and I don't trust those who do it.

I do not see anyone supporting Bernie as doing that.
However, many are certainly unhappy about our president's support for TPA, and TPP.

They think Bernie's going to win without the President campaigning for him and with him if he gets the nom. They're so invested in their seething they can't see the damn whole forest(typical).. for their little bitter lemon trees and sour grape vines.

(53,661 posts)Some of the stuff is worthy of the Breitbart website. It's that hateful and been debunked years ago. Bernie doesn't talk that way about anyone!
So I don't believe they support Bernie Sanders, they are just an anti-Democrat brigade. Makes no sense, as Bernie is much more polite about Obama than almost anyone else has been.
I can't believe they believe what Sanders does, it's just too far to the right, such comments. They don't support him, they just hate PBO and HRC. It's obvious.

I have to be straightforward here. I've been involved in politics a long time. Now I'm not talking about DU here because I don't know any of you in real life. So don't get itchy on the alert button.
But, IME, the extreme left are generally hateful to most politicians. I've seen them scream, yell, and just generally be rude to and about some electeds that are actually real advocates for a liberal agenda. It's very rare to find a politician pure enough for them. And even when they do the hero worship is short lived if the hero actually gets elected. They are, in my view, very much like the extreme right in that regard. AND that's how many, many politicians see them.
As a consequence they can be very hard to work with when it comes to pushing our agenda and resolving issues legislatively. So they often do not get a seat at the table.
It's unfortunate. But that is what happens in the real world. People don't want to work alongside people that treat them like the enemy. It's just human nature.

I like MADem's characterization better:
I gotta say, some of the people who are touting themselves as enthusiastic Sanders supporters are coming off like assholes. Total, complete, nasty-ass ASSHOLES. Racialicious, rude, prevaricating, bullshitting assholes. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1187&pid=14682
