(Social) Liberals are enjoying a comeback

http://wapo.st/1HHoCmq

That’s according to a new Gallup poll that finds the shares of American adults considering themselves “socially liberal” and “socially conservative” each total 31 percent. (The remaining respondents either called their views “moderate” or had no opinion.) Gallup has been tracking these categories since 1999, and the latest numbers simultaneously signify the highest share ever recorded for liberals and the lowest recorded for conservatives.

From the article:

On economic issues, mind you, Americans still call themselves conservative rather than liberal by a wide margin (39 percent to 19 percent). Yet that gap is shrinking, too, and is lower today than at any point since Gallup began keeping track in 1999. No wonder Hillary Clinton seems to be veering left; her weather vane has always been better calibrated than most.

The term "Socially Liberal" can include Libertarians and other supporters of hardcore dog eat dog laissez-faire capitalism. Supporting gay marriage is wonderful (seriously) but being married doesn't help someone who can't eat or pay the rent.

caterwauling about how conservative most Americans are...I haven't heard him sermonizing about that lately...he just babbles inconsequentially about Mika's braces making her lisp...really cringeworthy...

If need be, they'll invent "invisible" majorities to make it so.

Not a lot, but it is perceptible. Look, these guys are writers and commentators who would lose a lot of their reputation if they kept nodding as Joe spewed on. So that's the new reality. Of course, the political hacks he has on will spout the RW mantra but not the reputable men and women...
