Johnny Depp could face up to 10 years in prison for dog smuggling

Megastar Johnny Depp could face up to a decade in prison or a maximum $340,000 fine for illegally bringing his two dogs into Australia earlier this month, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

At a Senate committee hearing in Australia it was also discovered that Depp's pilot could face up to two years in prison, according to the Herald.

The Yorkshire terriers were flown back to the United States earlier this month after Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce threatened to put the two dogs--Pistol and Boo--down.

Joyce accused Depp of smuggling his dogs on his private jet when he returned to Australia in April to continue filming Pirates of the Caribbean.

For instance, is canine flu a problem in Australia yet? Or France (isn't that where Depp lives)?

I like Johnny Depp, but that seems like a stupid thing to do.

9. Australia is almost the only home of marsupial mammals, many of which are endangered.

The quarantine is to keep out flea- and tick-borne pests and the like. Marsupials may have never encountered many of the diseases and parasites which live on placental mammals in the rest of the world, and could be very vulnerable to introduced diseases.

I've traveled internationally for a lot of my life. Even as a child, I knew animals could not cross borders without lots of paperwork.

When I moved to Germany in the 90's, I had to have my dog and cat certified in two languages.

Either Depp is a complete moron (very possible), or he thought he could get away with it because he is WEALTHY and a movie star.
