Pastors Wife Says Josh Duggar Was Just Playing Doctor And Blames Victims
The wife of a Texas pastor took to a noted atheist's Facebook page to defend Josh Duggar and blame his victims.
Carrie Hurd, the wife of Texas pastor Patrick Hurd, made the controversial comments Saturday on the Facebook page of Vyckie Garrison, who was named the 2014 Atheist of the Year by American Atheists. Garrison posted an interview she gave that was critical of the Christian family's mentality towards sex which she said can easily lead to abuse because they are not properly educated on the topic or allowed to understand their own sexuality.
"The consequence of this abuse is, to them, a positive it leads them to be saved," Garrison wrote on her Facebook page. "To them, the abuse is something that has eternal consequences of great benefit and glory to God. They're minimizing the harm and damage that's been done to those girls, and minimizing the guilt that comes from the crime that Josh committed, because of that spiritual benefit."
But Carrie Hurd took exception to Garrison's comments and wrote the female victims, some of whom were reportedly assaulted in their sleep, should also be held accountable.
"You women want parity in the board room and you want equal wages all the way up the ladder, but when it comes to taking responsibility and being equal in other areas, it is always the man's fault or responsibility. How many women bait, hit first, but are seldom arrested for abuse
.?" Carrie Hurd wrote. "When I was a kid, it was often called "playing doctor", there were just as many girls initiating this kind of behavior as boys. Most of those never went on to perp horrible things."

(5,829 posts)We all know about "playing doctor" and when it's play, it's consentual and involves no more than some clumsy groping. Was Mrs Hurd a brainwashed victim herself many years ago? If so, who was her abuser?
The 'Christian' right's defense, and acc'd to 'education' manuals their full support of duch abuse, is thoroughly despicable.
And they wonder why organized religion us losing supporters...

(115,691 posts)- little kids, 4 or 5 years old, who have just found out that boys and girls are different and want to have a look. I'm sure Josh Duggar's sex education experience from his fundy parents was minimal and weird, and probably consisted of little more than being told that he must not have any physical contact with a girlfriend before marriage, as well as an admonition that he must not "touch himself" on pain of eternal damnation. Nevertheless, when you're 14 and fiddling with your sleeping sisters you're not "playing doctor," however curious you might be. His parents and their nutball religious beliefs created the family's repressed sexual atmosphere that made some sort of perverse behavior more likely, but a 14-year-old should damn well know better than to do what he did. The fact that he snuck up on them when they were sleeping tells me he knew what he was doing and that it was wrong.

(12,504 posts)the Christian Right hasn't moved off of Old Testament era, when it comes to blaming women for their lot in life.
Do they not know how the bible came to be? Do the not even listen the the FACT that a bunch of men decided what and what is not included in their spiritual handbook. Do the not realize that the inclusion and exclusion of books and passages was determined by a pre arranged, desired patriarchal agenda?
The general US population is learning and changing and morphing (although we still have a way to go) with regards to women's issues and misogyny, but these idiots are fighting it tooth and nail.
