Barcelona's Mayor and the Occupy Movement

"Meet Ada Colau Ballano. This woman, who you see here being escorted out of a bank she occupied with the anti-eviction group PAH and caught national attention for calling a representative of the Spanish Banking Association “a criminal”, won the last municipal elections in Barcelona, making this "radical" the new mayor of the second biggest city in Spain."

I lived and went to school in Barcelona for a while. Lived with a Catalan family and learned to speak the language. Even today they freak when I'm there, just can't believe there's "un americà qui parla català."

The Catalans have always had a proud, independent, non-conformist streak to them. It's no accident their signature artist was Salvador (do NOT pronounce the final "r&quot Dalí.

I still get down there every six to eight weeks (will be there again next week). Even after all this time, it's like a déjà vu homecoming.
