General Discussion

There used to be five or six people who would post pictures of these Republican clowns out of current news stories and below them write creative so-called quotations which would satirize their/our subjects. We often tried to sound fairly realistic (many people have had taken the quotes as real) but also absurd, both for satiric purposes. Even trying to copy the speech patterns of a Trump, say or an O'Reilly, or a Cheney, etc.
I would love to see more posters of CAPTIONs, and now would be a great time for people to begin.
If you are creative, writing these will only sharpen your edge. It will not be a waste of time and you'll get to amuse yourself and others in the process. DUers have occasionally spoken of CAPTIONs as the comic pages of the newspaper. Often 300 people will open your thread and a number will offer witty CAPTIONs of their own, often better than the original posts (Check out DUer underpants!)
And, hell, many of us have only one arrow in our quiver, humor. As Ed Dorn wrote, at least we can "blow them all to rags" with laughter.
(And if anyone wants to read a few CAPTIONs in my absence, click on my profile.)

Well wishes coming your way.

For some reason many people become depressed after heart surgery so be prepared for an anti-depressant in your initial RX box.
((Vibes)) for a trouble free surgery and a peaceful recovery!
skip fox
(19,356 posts)I was worried about depression since I'll live by myself when I get out (children dropping in for first week perhaps), so I asked my surgeon yesterday and he said that's relative rare (5% chance).
I'm pretty hardened for 68 years old. I've had chest surgery (removal of large cyst), a heart attack (with insertion of stent) and lung surgery, not to mention two other stints in the hospital. Mostly in the last few years. It seems I had the energy of someone ten years younger than myself until I turned 62 or so, then the wheels started coming off the cart. I can't complain. And I've been able to do a lot.
(By the way, I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and jogged from 35 to 60 years old, but my genetics were bad. My dad, who had a much worst lifestyle, had a heart attack at 70. Mine was at 67, last May in fact.)

(23,272 posts)Im in my early 50s and already have moderately severe artherosclerosis even though I have a very active daily lifestyle and eat primarily vegetarian.
My dads got the heart problems so there was always that chance.
I hadn't heard the depression stats for post heart surgery was so minimal. My dad had it fairly severely as well following his quadruple bypass surgery.
Anyway good luck! I'll be thinking of you

(16,296 posts)Got winded and under the neck pain cutting the grass. Went to doctor, one thing led to another and the day they found blockage they shot me over to the hospital in an ambulance. Took a vein from my leg and did all sorts of surgicial sewing. Recovery took a few weeks. The fact that they are letting you come in several days later after diagnosing is surprising.
I imagine all sorts of advances have been made in the twenty years since I had mine done. It's amazing. HOWEVER, for some stupid reason, I didn't go into rehabilitation - do it . Make sure they give you some form of exercise therapy after surgery.
Good luck - and Captain Gato says, "Keep a positive attitude. Buck up"

Do what your doc says, eat healthy, take your meds, and walk a lot.
That's what my surgeon told me on his last visit. Walk, walk, walk, then walk back!
No kidding it really works.
Went from a 35% ejection faction, to 55% in two and a half years after the surgery.
Was on the borderline to have a defibrillator placed inside to them releasing me from the CHF system.
Get a Fitbit and a dog, both need to be walked and are great motivation.
This year since January 15 when I got my Fitbit I have walked the length of Italy, 736 miles.
Take an iPod with you when you go to the hospital. It keeps out the crazy noises that go on in the ward. Resting after is the best thing. Going in to your own world and shutting out the rabble is key.
Again good luck.

(14,525 posts)surgery and a speedy recovery. Listen to the Dr's and more importantly to the nurses. Trust me, you will hate those nurses with every fiber of your being after post op. Who wouldn't? You have had your chest cracked open, wired shut and a nurse will come in and say it is time to get out of bed and go for a walk. Just do it. It will prevent you from getting pneumonia and speed up the recovery.
A friend of mine had this done a year ago. She said she never felt better, after a few weeks. This is a double edged sword. You feel so great you think you can do a lot more than you should. That is when you say to yourself...Don't just do it!

(18,402 posts)for a speedy recovery and a new lease on life.
I don't know much about bypass surgery at all, so I can't give any advice. So I guess I'll just say: keep a positive attitude that things will get back to normal, with patience and time, and follow your doctor's orders to the "t." Oh, and keep as many pairs as you can of those hospital bed socks with the little skid control thingies on the bottom!
One more thing, though I don't know if it applies to bypass surgery. It's something my husband's oncologist told him upon diagnosis earlier this year, and it's been a real boon to our mental state and focus: don't read too much on the Internet about your condition. There's too much crap out there that is not even applicable to your situation. I'm normally an addictive internet researcher, but I took that to heart and have been very glad. We just consult on a need to know basis, and very rarely at that: e.g., side effect of a particular drug, etc. Focus on getting well, not worrying about what could potentially go wrong.
I have a good feeling you'll be back in no time!

I've had four surgeries and the memories which are the most vivid (during recovery periods) were the bad days-good day-bad days.
On the bad days I had to remind myself that a good day was on the horizon... until finally, the good days outnumbered the bad ones.
Again, wishing you the best.
