Republican Scott Walker dismissed any controversy over a law he signed in Wisconsin requiring women seeking abortions to get an ultrasound, referring in an interview on a conservative radio show to ultrasounds as "just a cool thing out there."
The Wisconsin governor, who is likely running for president and leading in early state polls, spoke about a range of issues Friday on "The Dana Show," including immigration, the economy and education. About 15 minutes in, host Dana Loesch asked, "What place do you think social issues have in 2016? And why do you think so many Republican candidates are scared of them? Are they scared to embrace them; they're scared to get trapped by the media?"
"Well, I think a little bit of it is the media is a 'gotcha,' some do at least, I don't want to say universally." he said. Then he continued:
"We just knew if we signed that law, if we provided the information, that more people if they saw that unborn child would, would make a decision to protect and keep the life of that unborn child."
Walker added that issues like abortion "shouldn't be the only thing" conservatives focus on. "We should make sure that people know us for fiscal and economic strengths as well," he said.

KochWalker needs to have an ultrasound wand shoved up his ass and then asked how cool it is....
Jackass needs to have his own test first.

(20,043 posts)thing when there's a law that requires you to have something shoved inside you BEFORE you're ALLOWED to make a decision about YOUR health care.
Defunding planned parenthood isn't pro-life dickwad, it's pro death. They do cancer screenings, hiv tests, ect. In many planned parenthoods men are screen as well as women.

(50,556 posts)...he will be sure to tell American women that giving birth is their patriotic duty - exactly what Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu did when he bestowed an abortion ban on that nation.
So let me see...he has done everything in his power to eliminate the social safety net that helps keep women from aborting on economic grounds, he thinks a woman is going to want to keep a rapist's baby if she only sees a sonogram of it, and he hasn't noticed Greyhound will take you from Wisconsin to either Minneapolis or Chicago any day of the week.
Also Scott...considering the U3 hit 10.8 percent under Reagan and Bush Administration policies crashed the world economy in 2007, I wouldn't call your fiscal and economic policies "strengths."

(21,691 posts)I remember what happened after he and his wife got better than they deserved: the owning of typewriters and abortion were both legalized.
Had a friend of mine's father put to death. He had the temerity to complain about corruption. I believe he made the mistake of thinking that honesty would be welcomed and his position in the Romanian government at the time would protect him.

This man is excruciatingly stupid.
But at least he doesn't let that get in the way of being consistently malicious.

(23,944 posts)back when i was getting diagnosed (turned out to be MS), the doc had me go for an ultrasound of my heart, and it was pretty neat to see everything pumping away in there - of course, i didn't have someone shoving a trans-aortal wand into my chest cavity, which would have put quite a damper on the festivities such as they were. but still... yeah ultrasound imaging is very cool. looking at kids in fetal ultrasounds is cool too.
defunding Planned Parenthood? not so cool, although his audience equates Planned Parenthood with late term abortions, so probably a legit bragging point for gov. walker.

In the general sense, ultrasounds are cool in terms of the science behind it. But it is stupid to require even an external ultrasound if somebody doesn't need it, as determined by their medical staff.

(2,284 posts)THE PICTURES can be cool, if you are excited about and want this pregnancy.
That would be why grandparents show those photos.
The procedure itself sucks, even if you WANT the pregnancy.
I've had dozens of them, and they are uncomfortable, messy and weird.
(One doctor uses condoms - literally unrolls a condom onto the wand - for each new patient.)
The wand is uncomfortable going in, and then the doctor has to move it around to get the best image - it is like having cramps.
And then you get to drip lube down your legs for the next few hours.
Absolutely lovely.
Honestly, I wonder if Walker even knows what it is he's advocating.
Is he picturing transabdominal ultrasounds, where they press the transducer into your belly?
(Still uncomfortable, but not nearly as invasive...)
Regardless, it *is* a crazy idea, Gov.

(4,552 posts)Ending funding Of PP will increase abortion. This is not about stopping abortion it is about control.
Obamacare will prevent more abortions than anything republicans have done. Easy access to birth control drastically reduces abortion. (Washington University School of Medicine study)
We need to make some facts known.
Fact Democrats are reducing abortion.
Fact access to healthcare reduces abortion.
Fact easy access to birth control drastically reduces abortion.
Fact republicans are not reducing abortion. They are not helping.
Fact when abortion was illegal it was still rampant.
Republicans can change all the laws they want, it won't work. They are addressing the wrong issues and they are failures because of it.
What Obama and the Democrats have done to reduce abortion should be huge issue in 16.

Scott, we ALL know what your agenda is here in requiring women to have ultrasounds, so knock it off with the touchy-feely sentimental bullshit. Thanks.

(23,097 posts)is his calling card. He knows damn well it's not a normal ultra-sound that was mandated but a trans-vaginal ultrasound that is very invasive and uncalled for. He talks about it like its the topical kind, not the kind that's very large and gets inserted into a woman's vagina. Calling him a pig or scum would be an insult to those life forms. I really can't think of words that are bad enough to be be fitting for him. The closest I can think of is dickhead, but again, not bad enough to fit him.

(4,033 posts)he's fucking crazy. No matter what no woman should be forced to have any treatment, use of medical instruments on their body that they don't want.
The republicans in the past have talked about vaginal ultrasounds. If that's the instance here, shame on the "journalist" who didn't bring it up.
Let me tell you about vaginal ultrasounds. I've had one. You have to drink 32oz. of water beforehand and are not allowed to urinate until after the exam. The insertion of the proble hurts like hell, along with the movement while it is inserted. After about 20 minutes, it's over, you can then go to the bathroom, where I had some spotting of blood.
It's embarassing, I had to ask for a female tech, when a man had walked in ready to perform the exam. Mine wasn't done for a pregnancy, but because the doctors were trying to find out where the endometiosis (edndometrial tissue) was attaching itself.
Fuck Walker and every other republican and the horses they rode in on.
