The rival group to the United Auto Workers union at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee brands itself as local, independent and free of outside influence or political agenda.
But the American Council of Employees won't divulge how it is funded, and the lawyer who recently filed the group's overdue disclosures with the U.S. Department of Labor touts his expertise in "union avoidance."
ACE has 381 members among both hourly and salaried workers at the Chattanooga factory, according to the filing. By contrast, the UAW said last month it had 816 members among the hourly workers alone. That's about 55 percent of the blue-collar workforce.
ACE wants to prevent the UAW from gaining bargaining rights for the first time at a foreign-owned automaker in the South, and its leaders previously spearheaded the successful effort, dubbed Southern Momentum, that helped thwart the UAW in a union election at the factory last year.

(11,513 posts)It seems that all too often the right's only way to win is through lies and dirty tricks, and this story reads as though it's another one of those instances.

(6,905 posts)Short and sweet:
ACE wants to be the contracting agent for VW employees, but has no valid or even sample contract with employees.
The part of their website whichever spells out who they are and the rules of their organization is BLANK. The Constitution and Bylaws say "we will write one later, trust us" Look at the ACE link.
So they want to write my contract with "my" employer VW, but they refuse to put who they are in writing. They are too busy to write who they are, but they want to steer millions in earnings for employees.
And the fact they have 300-something members shows there are people who fail to perform their due diligence and will sign anything, even if it gives away something but gets nothing in return. They NEED representation.
From ACE website:
Does the American Council of Employees have a constitution and by-laws?
The constitution and by-laws will be written by the members of the American Council of Employees. They are not required in this inquiry period of gauging interest to have an independent union.

(26,598 posts)so much so that they'll join an anti union union, which is free of outside influence or political agenda????
