supporting two white people, yelling about who is racist, who isn't, and who just doesn't care about minorities. If the black community were reading du, which for the most part I don't think they have much representation here, I hope they would just laugh at us.

(30,481 posts)But I have no clue as to the point you are trying to make. Others seem to get it.

(30,460 posts)I'm not making any "point". You are the one who seemed to be trying to so that with your first post.

(30,481 posts)Thought you were replying to make a point. I was wrong. Now I understand why I couldn't figure out why you were replying. I was looking for a reason behind the reply. In the end there was no point. Got it now. Thanks.

(38,043 posts)NC wasn't 'them' - ing black folks. So that's not the issue.
But there is a sentiment amongst black folks at DU (the handful of us) that it's kind of funny to watch to white candidates groups - beat each other up over who has done more for blacks, will do, etc. etc.
Like at the end of the day either one will appoint another ass wipe like Scalia or Thomas to the SCOTUS.
Noooooooooot gonna happen!
Both groups need to just go along to get along on this issue.
Stop getting all up in their feelings and let it go.
Politicians don't do anything for black people until we make it so uncomfortable for them they have to. I.E. - any change won't come from either of these candidates - it comes from the black community beating them up with words, actions, boycotts, etc. etc.
Regardless - if either one wins then screws up - we have a better chance at bullying a Democratic President into giving us what is rightfully OURS as Americans than we ever will a Republican.
1. The Koch brothers who made a MASSIVE donation to the UNCF last year AND had the President of the organization come to one of their little posh meetings.
and
2. Rand Paul who goes out and sits down knee-to-knee in the black community.

(30,481 posts)We all want to act like we care more, while at the same time using said groups as political footballs for our personal(personal being any gain from our person of choice. Go team.) benefit. It's beyond disrespectful. Then again, I would hate the discomfort we would feel from an honest and open discussion on this topic. It's not really funny, not sure why I am trying to make a joke.

(38,043 posts)If you were in these discussions the past few weeks - you'd see how on the mark you are.
And yet - you get resistance - for pointing out what is obvious.
All you did was tell the truth. And instead of getting the 'content' - folks focused on the words. It's the content of your OP that is not funny.
It's the reaction that is.
whathehell
(30,460 posts)I'm guessing it would be not so funny if they didn't mention it at all.
Judging by a thread here criticizing early civil rights activist Bernie Sanders for not
mentioning Black people enough in his opening campaign speech, it's apparently not.
"Politicians don't do anything for black people until we make it so uncomfortable for them they have to. I.E. - any change won't come from either of these candidates - it comes from the black community beating them up with words, actions, boycotts, etc. etc"
Guess what, Gen? Unless you're a big donor, politicians don't do anything for ANYONE if you don't "make it so uncomfortable
for them that they have to"...That doesn't pertain to just one group.
P.S. I know that NC wasn't "them-ing Black folks" -- He seemed to think I was -- Hopefully, I've explained
it in a manner he can understand.

(38,043 posts)It was us - that's the key thing. And we weren't big donors to Kennedy or LBJ. Actually I think those were the first Democratic party members my dad's father gave money to. He flipped back to Republican (many black men that COULD vote that were born in the deep South at the turn of the last century were Republicans with good reason) in 1968. Then Carter - Democratic - then he died.
It was when we made things uncomfortable and didn't back down - when we didn't even have the most basic right to vote - when our dads could be sent off to Korea and Vietnam to get shot and killed - but couldn't vote while home on leave (my dad back in Alabama in 1964) - We made it happen. WithOUT money. Without representation in the government or state houses. Without a vote -
We made it happen.
The only way we will make it happen NOW - is if we remember the Cell Phone is now mightier than the gun.
And remember to keep reaching down and giving those left behind a hand up. And bring our cell phones to the polls. I think in 2016 we are going to be severely challenged - and that should be priority number one in regards to black Americans that white liberals/progressives need to concern themselves with.
If they disenfranchise just a few thousand - Clinton, Sanders, O'Malley, Webb - no one is gonna win.

(30,481 posts)I don't post in many groups but do have two I regularly read. I have not been to the AA group. I will say, the two groups I read are extremely educational. I will stop by the AA group today.

(30,460 posts)You who seem to find it funny that "white people" would call each other racist, and yet you
yourself have never been to the AA group?
Aw gee, seems you might want to start laughing at yourself instead of
condescending to those poor deluded white folk you find so amusing.

(30,481 posts)You seem to have an issue. Multiple posts to the op with very little context.
"You who find it so funny that "white people" would call each other racist, when you

What does never having been to the group have to do with anything? Anything at all in this world?
whathehell
(30,460 posts)"What does never having been to the group have to do with anything? Anything at all in this world"?
Do you really want to know? Or are you just now playing dumb because you got caught being snide
and now can't defend yourself?
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and explain:
You felt the need in your OP to remark on 'white people' calling each other racist -- Why?
Along with JustAnotherGen, you seemed to find it "funny" or "ridiculous" in some way,
rather than viewing it as a decent concern on their part...A concern YOU don't appear to have
since you've never even checked into the AA group to HEAR their concerns.
It seems your only interested in doing it now so you can feel superior by laughing along
at all those poor, deluded white people..

(30,481 posts)In order for me to make a point, I must first visit certain groups? Very strange position to take.
Maybe you should visit the group with me. We can go into the AA group and read together. I just stopped in. Seems like it will be very educational. You with me? We can listen and learn instead of talking.
Edit: Never mind. I see you have been to that group and won't be back today. Your comments make much more sense now.

(4,748 posts)One can argue who will be the better or more efficient leader in this area. Other areas the differences between the candidates are more striking. Support or opposition of the MIC, economic disparity and how to address it, spying by our Gov. and what to do about it, Working Class issues, Bank regulation. Lets discuss issues of real difference.
That would make too much sense. The candidates seem to understand that, many of their supporters don't seem to.
