Students were doused with ketchup and later beaten for conducting a sit-in at a racially segregated lunch counter in Jackson, Mississippi.

May 28, 1963
A Tougaloo College professor and students staged a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter in the Woolworth’s in Jackson, Mississippi. White youths showered the peaceful protesters with verbal abuse and dumped ketchup, mustard and soda on them. The demonstrators were then doused with spray paint and beaten.
