Michele Bachmann Withdraws Swiss Citizenship

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has decided to withdraw her dual Swiss citizenship.

The conservative congresswoman addressed the matter in a statement on Thursday on the heels of news that she had been granted citizenship of the European country.

"I sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate requesting withdrawal of my dual Swiss citizenship, which was conferred upon me by operation of Swiss law when I married my husband in 1978," she said. "I took this action because I want to make it perfectly clear: I was born in America and I am a proud American citizen. I am, and always have been, 100 percent committed to our United States Constitution and the United States of America. As the daughter of an Air Force veteran, stepdaughter of an Army veteran and sister of a Navy veteran, I am proud of my allegiance to the greatest nation the world has ever known."

Either the Swiss didn't want her or she realized the GOP might not? What a monumentally stupid woman.

1. she didn't attain swiss citizenship by marrying marcus any more than i attained french citizenship

being the daughter of my french mother. if that were the case, many american citizens could automatically claim dual citizenship. you have to apply.

2. Wow - that is a direct lie

As commented above, she had to apply in order to obtain it. It was not automatically conferred by operation of law.

I don't have a problem with it, lots of folks have Irish or Israeli citizenship, and the main practical effect is that they can go to the short line when they visit.

But, good golly, why lie about it?

3. She's scared of the dumshit demographic

They would not react very well to the news that their favorite tea bagger and corn dog eater was a citizen of a candy ass country like Switzerland.

BTW my grandmother was born in Switzerland but nobody ever believed it because she had an Italian sounding surname. If I could acquire Swiss citizenship I wouldn't dispose of it so casually. I might even move there.
